NOTE: This product has been discontinued, and replaced with Lab 12 Mint Slim White Dry.
Prior to this product, the Lab Series mainly came in natural/tobacco tasting products. 01 (Regular Strength) and 02 (Strong) launched in 2009. 05 (White Strong) and 06 (Original Extra Strong) launched in 2011. Then in 2013 came this product, Lab 12 (Mint White Strong). There's no sense to the numbering system, as after this one came Lab 13 (Extra Strong) in 2014, 22 (Xylitol/Mint White) and 24 (Xylitol/Licorice Mint White in 2015. Also, 03 (White) launched in 2015. So there is zero rhyme or reason to the numbering scheme. When it comes to the Lab 12 Strong Mint, the product description says, "A strong snus with a mellow and spicy tobacco character with a fresh peppermint flavor along with hints of oak, leather and vanilla. A long and narrow full sized pouch that has a dry surface with a moist content for a long lasting release of flavor." This product comes in a 21.6 gram can with 24 portions for 0.9 grams each. The nicotine content is 14mg/g (1.4%), which breaks down to 12.6mg/portion.
When you open the can, the aroma that greets you is a lot like Catch XRANGE Mint. It's a straightforward peppermint smell, but it isn't as sharp or as sweet. It's much milder. The portions are slim and feel comfortable in the lip. I do encounter a mild cooling presence in the lip, but it's not as present as I notice with other mint products. The flavor description makes this snus sound complex in taste, but honestly I don't notice all the things mentioned in the flavor profile. The peppermint flavor is the most present taste in this snus, but it isn't as sweet or as bold as other peppermint products I've had in the past. That's not a bad thing, it's actually quite enjoyable. I don't notice oak, leather, or vanilla in the flavor profile. The longer I have the portion in, however, the more I can notice a taste of tobacco. Usually I pick it up at about the 30 minute mark. It's not too bold, but it's there. The flavor lasts a good amount of time, as well. I can usually enjoy a portion of Lab 12 for a little over an hour. Though it's listed as a strong product, it doesn't feel too strong. To me, it feels to be just a touch over the regular strength level. As far as mint products go, this one isn't too bad. If you want a mint snus that isn't too sweet and has a milder flavor profile, this is definitely one to check out.
