A few months ago I reviewed the new format of Grizzly Nicotine Pouches and tried their "
Original" flavor. Now I have all their new ones. I haven't been able to find these locally, so I purchased them from
NicPouches.us. As I noted then, these are no longer like the old
mini/dry Grizzly pouches. These have changed, and now have adopted the
Velo Plus slim/moist pouch format. I think this is a good move. I know some like the mini/dry format, and that's fine. But, for me, I personally enjoy this format much more. So, we have three flavors to check out: Wintergreen, Mint, and Southern. I was curious if these would be relabeled Velo Plus. In terms of product specifics, each can weighs 10.6g and has 20 pouches, weighing 0.53g each. The nicotine contents I've seen available are 9mg/pouch, 12mg/pouch, and 15mg/pouch. The 9mg I tried before felt about the regular strength level. The 12mg had a bit stronger kick than that. The 15mg surprised me and had quite a strong kick. Usually 15mg isn't too strong to me, but it was a bit stronger than I expected.
One note, I've already reviewed the Original, so if you want to find that review,
it's here. So, let's check these out, shall we?
Grizzly Nicotine Pouches: Wintergreen
Flavor Description: "Crisp and cooling wintergreen".
Review: Since this is made by the same people who make Velo Plus, I was curious if this would be simply a rebrand of
Velo Plus Wintergreen. Opening the can, I was pleasantly surprised. To preface this, I don't think anyone has made a good wintergreen pouch in the US yet. Many of them are, as i've come to call them, "mintergreen", which blends mint and wintergreen. In the aroma of this one, it is slightly minty, yes, but it has a very present aroma of wintergreen. The flavor, as well, caught me off guard. It's not mintergreen. In fact, it's more of a straightforward wintergreen, which I don't think anyone has captured yet on the US market. Impressive!
Grizzly Nicotine Pouches: Southern
Flavor Description: "Bold, warm Southern-inspired blend".
Review: I was curious what the "Southern" flavor meant. That didn't tell me much. I had heard things here and there from people who had tried it, so I was ready to see for myself. Opening the can, I found it to be watermelon. Not only that, but an impressive, bold presence of watermelon. It is slightly on the sweet side. In the flavor profile, very much like the aroma. It's a sweet, present taste of watermelon. An interesting note (to my snus audience): this reminded me a good bit of
Jakobsson's Melon.
Grizzly Nicotine Pouches: Mint
Flavor Description: "Refreshing, cool mint".
Review: As with the Wintergreen one, I was curious if this would be a clone of any of the three other Velo Plus mint variants. This one, to me, seems to stand on it's own, as well. The mint aroma is present, and powerful. It's a peppermint smell, along with some sweetness. Under the lip, I found a nice burn from this one. The flavor is pretty present. The peppermint flavor is front and center. It's pretty bold, and yes, a little on the sweet side. Not bad!
Rating and Final Thoughts
As I noted with the previous Grizzly, these are vastly better than the mini dry version I had before. First ratings. Southern (12mg) at 3.42/5, Wintergreen (15mg) at 3.38/5, then Mint (12mg) at 3.25/5. The strength affected those ratings, so it would vary based on the strengths. If they were all on the same level - 9mg, Southern and Wintergreen would tie, and Mint would be behind it. First, Southern. I found this one to have a nice, melon flavor. Next, Mint. This one was a pretty solid taste of mint. I want to finish with Wintergreen. As I've noted, I haven't found a Wintergreen nicotine pouch in the US (or even internationally), that has really captured the wintergreen taste yet. I think this one is the first one I've found in the US that has done it. So, if you like nicotine pouches, and are in the US, I think you'd be pleased with these. The quality is good, as is the flavor presence!
