Velo Mint (Nicotine Pouches) - Review. 7 March 2022.

BAT has been gradually branding their Lyft nicotine pouches line to Velo, seemingly to have more international uniformity.  It seems as though it is in the final stages, so I felt it was time to review the re-named Velo products so as to update my reviews here.  Today we're talking about Velo Mint!  I've had a few BAT takes on the mint flavor profile.  First, Epok Mint (white tobacco) in June of 2016.  A chew bag version of Epok Mint would launch in Denmark in February of 2019.  A Lyft version would also come that very same month.  The following year, January of 2020, a version of Epok Mint would launch in Norway.  And now, we are on to the Velo version!  The flavor description for this one says "treat yourself to the feeling of rich sweetness from spearmint in combination with the cooling freshness of menthol that gives you that little extra!"  Each can weighs 14.7 grams and has 21 portions, for 0.7 gram portions.  The nicotine content is 6mg/portion, or 8.57mg/g (0.857%).

The road to Velo has been an interesting one, and I wanted to briefly cover it before the review.  Back in 2014, Winnington in Sweden launched Epok, a white tobacco product.  British American Tobacco purchased Winnington in 2017, and would launch Lyft, a tobacco free nicotine pouch, in 2018.  Epok would stay on the market in some smaller markets like Norway and Switzerland.  In 2019, RJ Reynolds in the US would launch a long/slim nicotine pouch called Velo that came in a square tin.  This name would begin to translate internationally in 2020, with some European markets rebranding their Lyft products to Velo.  In 2021, BAT would acquire a company making Dryft, and rebranded their US market mini-dry pouches to "Velo", existing alongside the previously mentioned square-tin Velo products.  And now, as we see in 2022, the Lyft brand is being completely phased out and transitioning to Velo.

Compared to the other Velo mint flavors, which are more sharp/focused, this one is a bit more smooth, and pleasant.  In the aroma, it's a clean, moderately sweet, gentle aroma of spearmint.  The pouches are slim, comfortable in the lip, with a moderate moisture.  Being a mint product, they also come with a gentle cooling presence in the lip.  In terms of flavor, it's a pretty clear, clean taste of spearmint.  It has a semi-sweet nature to it, and is pretty refreshing!  In terms of strength, it feels to be about regular strength.  The flavor longevity, on average, lasts about 40-45 minutes.  To compare this one. if you've had Lyft Mint, this one is basically the exact same thing, but with a different name.

Rating and Final Thoughts

I rated this one at 3.67/5.  That may sound low but, honestly for me, that's a pretty high score for a nicotine pouch for me (since I don't really use them).  Most of them out there are too strong, or have a burning peppermint taste, but this one is a really good, chill, laid back spearmint flavor.  Honestly, it's probably the best mint flavored nicotine pouch out there.  If this is your sort of thing, I definitely suggest checking it out.
