Mörkbrunt (Lös) - Review. 22 November 2018.

It seems as though Swedish Match realized that there are those of us who don't want more mint products, as they have resurrected one of their old brands in the lös only format - meet Mörkbrunt Lös! So, if you're reading this Swedish Match, this is awesome and keep it up. Mörkbrunt was a lös brand produced from 1916-1998. This release seems to be a limited edition, as they appear to be doing more re-releases of their classic products. In fact, at the bottom of the Mörkbrunt ordering page on their webstore, you can suggest which product you'd like to see them bring back next: Karlskrona Snus, Stjärnsnus, Skåne Snus, Rallarsnus, Micks Mint, Östan, or Svenska Exportsnus. We already know Rallarsnus is coming early next year, but I'd be interested to try some of these others, as well.

The product description for Mörkbrunt Lös says, "Dark tobacco character with clear smoke tones as well as elements of dried fruit and leather."  This product comes in a 42g can with a nicotine content of 7.5mg/g (0.75%).

Mörkbrunt Snus History

Mörkbrunt Snus began manufacturing in 1880 at J.L. Tiedemanns tobacco factory in Charlottenberg, Värmland (pictured here). This factory was taken over by the Swedish Tobacco Monopoly in 1916. Prior to this, there were originally two versions of Mörkbrunt Snus: No1 and No2, mainly sold in Dalsland and Värmland.  Most manufacturers back then would make No1, No2, etc, versions of their products.  Production would cease at the Charlottenberg factory in 1941, and as with most brands, production of Mörkbrunt would move to the Göteborg factory and only one product was continued - Mörkbrunt Los.  Mörkbrunt Snus was produced until 1998, when it was discontinued by Swedish Match.

Mörkbrunt Lös Review

When you open the can, the aroma that greets you is a dark, earthy, smoky tobacco smell.  The smell reminds me of a darker version of Prima Fint Lös.  The tobacco is soft, moist, and very easy to handbake.  Once in the lip, it is quite comfortable, stays together well, and has a quick release of flavor.  The taste of this snus is a dark, earthy tobacco character, with a light hint of smoke.  This flavor reminds me of a less chocolatey Ettan Lös mixed with Prima Fint Lös.  It's pretty tasty stuff.  The nicotine strength feels to be about the regular level, and the flavor itself lasts about 45 minutes on average.  The lös stays together quite well, so I find I was able to keep these prillas in with little mudslide or breakage.

I really enjoyed this product, and I'm glad I got to try it.  I imagine this will be a limited edition release, so if you want to try it out, make sure and grab some!  If you're in the US, SnusCENTRAL.com just started selling it.
