NOTE: This product has been discontinued and replaced with a new white dry version. New review, here.
I recently reviewed General XRANGE Slim Large White which replaced General Tailored White, a long time favorite of mine. Though it isn't one I use all the time, it's one that I usually have a can or two of in stock. When I heard about this new G3 product, I was definitely curious as to how it would compare with the old General Tailored and the new General XRANGE Slim Large White. The product description says, "A new generation - General G.3 Slim White Extra Strong, an extra strong real General snus in slim white portion format with a softer surface. Provides a long lasting flavor release and comfortable fit."
Note: This photo has the old G3 can design, however nothing else has changed about the product other than the design.
I wanted to do a comparison to see how all three of these products compared to each other - particularly in size. First, General G3 White Portion is a 21.6 gram can with 24 portions, whereas General XRANGE Slim Large White is a 16.8 gram can with 21 portions. When it comes to portion size, they're about the same as XRANGE but they're heavier, as they contain more tobacco. As far as a price comparison, General G3 White Portion is 5.32$ per can and the old General Tailored was 4.59$ per can. The new XRANGE is 3.97$ per can. So for 1.35$ more you get 3 more portions and 4.8 more grams of snus.
The portion material is very soft and feels quite comfortable in the lip. But the most important question remains - how does the taste and aroma compare to XRANGE? When you open a can of General G3 White Portion the aroma is closer to General Tailored White than General XRANGE White. There is a mild smell of bergamot and a hint of pepper. In XRANGE, I found the bergamot smell to be a little more bold. Honestly, the taste isn't that much different from General XRANGE Slim Large White and General Tailored White. The flavor of bergamot and citrus is the most present, there is a mild tobacco taste in the background, a spicy pepper taste and a hint of salt. The taste doesn't seem different from General XRANGE Slim Large White or General Tailored White. Which is a good thing, in my opinion, as it's a pretty good taste when it comes to the General line. If you're a General fan, you can't go wrong with this one. Though the nicotine content is listed as "strong", it doesn't feel too strong. It is noticeably stronger than regular strength snus, but it won't kick your teeth in or anything. Then flavor also lasts quite a while; I find I'm about to enjoy this snus for over an hour!
If you're a fan of General White Portion but want something a little stronger in a slim portion format, this is a must try!
