Swedish Match has released a new addition to their ONE series: ONE Röd, or, Red. When I first heard about this one, part of me hoped this was a return of
Röda Lacket (White Portion), which Swedish Match discontinued several years ago. But, when I got it, I noticed the can said "
Inspired by Göteborgs Rapé", so that crushed that one. It is interesting it says that, because this flavor doesn't remind me of any flavor in the GR range, at all. This is more akin to the more unique tastes in the ONE range, such as
ONE Gul (the sour citrus one),
ONE Green (the weird herbal one). It doesn't really taste like those, but it is a more unique flavor in the ONE series in the way that those are.
The
flavor description for this one says, "
ONE RED is the latest product in the ONE series and draws inspiration from the Nordic forest with a taste of wild berries". Each can weighs in at 22 grams and has 22 portions, for 1 gram portions. The nicotine content is 13mg/g (1.3%), or 13mg/portion, putting it at the strong level. Also, as you can see from the photo, the portions come in the star formation, and have the same portion material as the other ONE products. The portion material is a thin, silky, almost spider-web like material. It's pretty porous, so it gets you quite close to the tobacco, and renders a quicker release of flavor!
When you open the can, the aroma that comes through seems to be a mix of forest, and berries. In terms of the forest component, I pick up tones of spruce. The berry is lightly sweet, but not overly sweet. It's almost like a cranberry/raspberry mix. The portions, as mentioned, are fantastic. The material is soft, and the portion material leads to a quick release of flavor. In the flavor, I pick up that spruce/berry presence first. The berry flavor is kind of like a sweeter cranberry with a hint of raspberry. it's not overly sweet at all, but that's what it makes me think of. The tobacco base is of a darker nature, but it stays in the background behind the other flavor components. In terms of strength, it feels to be at the strong level, and the flavor lasts a solid hour on average. Also, the flavor seems to stay pretty present the whole time you have one in, which is a nice bonus of the ONE portion material.
Rating and Final Thoughts
In the end, I rated this one at 3.5/5. It's a solid snus, and probably one of my favorites in the ONE series of the more unique flavors (Red/Yellow/Green). It's a pretty enjoyable flavor, and one I'll most likely the ordering more of. I believe comparisons will be drawn to Röda Lacket and this one. In that it seems to have a darker tobacco base and those fruit flavors. However, it's not Röda Lacket, nor is it a clone. But I think people who like RL Lös or the former RL White Portion will enjoy this one. It's not a twin, or a brother, but it's definitely a cousin; it seems to be in the same family in regard to flavor profile. If you've never had RL, you could think of Lundgren's Skåne Vit. I think people who like the flavor of that one could draw comparisons with this one. All in all, it's a good snus, and I enjoyed it!
