Snix Snus - 4 Reviews (Discontinued). 3 November 2017.

NOTE:  This product was made by a small company and does not appear to be produced anymore.

I first heard about Snix Snus by stumbling across their Instagram page (@snix_snus) and found myself intrigued with their products. It isn't very often that we see new companies making new products. I checked out their website and this is what they had to say about their company/product line: "Snus is our passion. We have only one purpose - to produce first rate snus. We do not engage with other tobacco or snus related products, our goal is to simply offer snus enthusiasts a modern and quality product in this day and age. Our team respects tradition and traditional Swedish procedure of manufacturing quality snus, however, we also follow current trends and listen to the needs of the newest generation of snusers."  The Snix Snus range contains four products as of now:  Nesmark (Original Portion), Nesmark (White Portion), Nesmark Alpine Ice, and Black Jack (Original Portion).  In this review, we'll look at all 4 products, so let's dive in!

Nesmark Alpine Ice

I figured I would start with their mint release, because everyone makes a mint snus nowadays. The flavor description for this one says, "Refreshing menthol effect takes you across snowbound Alp peaks. Pleasant fusion of event and flavor." Nesmark Alpine Ice comes in a 22 gram can with 22 portions for 1 gram each. The nicotine strength is listed as “strong”.  I'm not sure of any exact numbers on the nicotine strength, however.

When you open the can, the aroma is a mix of peppermint and menthol. The portions are a good size, plump, and feel quite full in the lip. Being a mint product, you’ll get a nice cooling sensation when you put a portion in the lip. One thing I’ve noticed about this one is that the cooling presence lasts longer than I’ve noticed before with other comparable mint products. The flavor is a present menthol taste, a light hint of mint, a mild tobacco character, and a light hint of pepper. It’s a pretty unique taste. The flavor lasts about 45 minutes. The nicotine strength packs a strong kick, and feels to be right between a strong and an extra strong.  As far as mint products go, this one is pretty unique and pretty tasty as well!

Black Jack

This one had me pretty interested because of the name. The flavor description for this one says, "Contemporary snus for experienced users. Powerful. With mature, rough aroma and immediate nicotine effect. It thrills everyone, who are searching for the right thing."  This product comes in a 20 gram can with 24 portions, for 0.83 gram portions. The nicotine strength is listed as “strong”. As I said with the last product, I’m not sure of any exact number to put with that nicotine level.

When you open the can, the aroma is a robust, well rounded tobacco smell. It’s also quite peppery. The portions are nice and plump and have a quick release of flavor. The taste is a pretty peppery flavor. The tobacco taste is bold and earthy and almost seems to have a hint of chocolate in the background.  I don't really notice any citrus or bergamot in this one, so it seems to be pretty focused on the tobacco taste.  The flavor lasts about 45 minutes on average. The nicotine strength is also pretty strong; I’d place it between a strong and an extra strong.

Nesmark Original Portion

The flavor description for this one says “A unique snusing experience. Higher content of nicotine and rich tobacco flavor that lasts.”  I know, that flavor description doesn't say much.  But perhaps it's meant to be ambiguous.  This one comes in a 22 gram can with 24 portions for 0.91 gram portions. The nicotine strength is listed as “strong”. As with the other products, I don’t have a number to put with that nicotine strength.

When I first opened the can, the aroma that comes through reminds me a lot of Jagarpris Original Portion, a product AG Snus used to make that was discontinued a while back. It’s a rich, dark, earthy tobacco smell with pepper and a grassy presence. The portions are plump, soft, and feel great in the lip. The taste, like the aroma, gives me Jagarpris vibes. It’s a very present earthy tobacco flavor. In the background there are hints of pepper and a grassy presence. It’s a really interesting, but unique taste. The flavor lasts right around the 45 minute mark. The nicotine strength, as with the others, feel to be between strong an extra strong. It packs a nice kick to it!

Nesmark White Portion

The product description for this one says, "Elegant snus, distinctive mild flavor, and of medium strength."  Again, the flavor is rather ambiguous but perhaps they meant it to be ambiguous.  This is the only white portion of the 4 products. The can weighs 20 grams and contains 24 portions weighing 0.83 grams each. The nicotine strength is also listed as “strong”, but like the others I don’t know an exact number for it.

When I opened the can, the aroma of this one also reminded me of a product from AG Snus, Jagarpris White Portion. It’s a mild, earthy tobacco smell with a little pepper. The portions are soft, plump, and feel great in the lip. For white portions they’re quite soft. The taste is an earthy tobacco taste, slightly leather, with a little bit of pepper. It also reminds me of Jagarpris White Portion. The flavor lasts about an hour on average. The nicotine strength on this one is strong, but not too strong. It doesn’t feel as strong as the other 3 products.

When it comes to these products, they're pretty interesting.  All 4 are very unique tastes.  I haven't seen them for sale online anywhere other than direct through their website.  If you're interested in trying them, you can check out SnixSnus.com. They also have a Facebook page, an Instagram page, and a YouTube channel.

I hope they do well.  There aren't many small companies out there making and selling snus, so I'm hoping to see that segment of the snus category grow.  Much like the craft beer community, it would be great to see more of these small companies pop up!
