Vårgårda Ört (White Portion) - Review. 2 March 2023.

Prepare yourself.  Today, we are doing an actual snus review.  Yes, this is a new snus product, one that contains tobacco.  I know, this is exciting.  And surprising!  I was browsing Snus24.com the other day and saw this and was like wait, that's new snus!  In 2023, we don't see a lot of new snus products anymore.  Mostly we see more and more all white, tobacco-free nicotine pouches.  So, when a new snus comes out, it is something to celebrate, because it often feels like we snus folk have been forgotten!  Today we're checking out a product called Vårgårda Ört, a new one in the Vårgårda made by Nordic Snus in Sweden.  Ört, of course, translating to "herb".  Nordic Snus was formerly known as JTI Sweden, and is the manufacturer of one of my favorite lines - LD Snus!  This line is described like this:  "With inspiration from the Nordic nature and the world of gastronomy, Vårgårda has created its world of taste."

For Vårgårda Ört, the flavor description says, "Vårgårda Ört is a white portion that has a light and spicy tobacco character with clear hints of oregano, tarragon and a hint of nettles".  Each can weighs in at 20 grams, and contains 20 portions, weighing 1 gram each.  The nicotine content is 10mg/g (1.0%).  With 1 gram portions, no need to do any math, that's easily 10mg/portion!  These come in the white portion format, and seem to be a different material (from looking at them) compared to other LD/Nordic Snus/JTI white portion products I've had before.  Now, without further ado, let's talk about this snus!

When you open the can, there's a nice herbal, outdoorsy aroma to this one.  I pick up herbs up front, and a nice earthy tobacco smell.  There's some clear oregano to the aroma, and a slight spiciness.  I really dig the portion material on these.  They're soft, comfortable, and have a pretty quick release of flavor.  They're also quite full and plump due to the 1 gram pouch weight.  I didn't know what to expect with the flavor going into this one, but it wasn't that bad!  It's a pretty gentle, balanced taste.  I pick up oregano, then an earthy tobacco taste.  It's slightly spicy, and there's just a light hint of tarragon to it.  The nicotine strength is great; it hits right at the regular level and has a steady, smooth delivery.  The flavor hangs out about an hour, on average!  If you liked the old One Green, you'll dig this one.  It also reminds me a little of the old General Gastronomy snus.

Rating and Final Thoughts

When I first tried this one, I was iffy on it.  I wasn't the biggest fan of One Green, or snus products that are too herbal.  But this one was pretty well balanced, and has a pretty interesting mix of flavors.  It's honestly not that bad.  I wouldn't use it all the time, but I can say I might grab a can of it again.  I rated it at 3.5/5.  I'd put it a little above average.  Not amazing, but not bad by any means!  If you like herbal tastes, you may really dig it.

Also, thanks to Mrs. Snubie for helping out with photos for this article.  You can check out her snus photos she does for me, here, on Instagram.
