Göteborgs Rapé Fläderbris (Limited Edition) - Review. 18 May 2022.

When I heard Swedish Match was releasing a snus with "Fläder" in the name, you can imagine my excitement.  After all, one of my all time favorite snus products is Jakobsson's Fläder (RIP), going all the way back to when it was called "Gotland's Green" by those of us in the snus community who enjoyed it.  That product would eventually evolve into Wisby Söderport, another one that was sadly discontinued.  It seems I just can't keep an elderflower snus around.  I've been missing elderflower snus, so when I heard about this one, I'll admit, my expectations were a little too high.  The flavor description on this one says it has a "light tobacco character with distinct elements of elderberry, lemon and subtle hints of lavender".  Yes, elderberry, not elderflower.  While they come from the same tree, they are different, but slightly similar in some ways.  Each can weighs 21.6 grams and has 24 portions, for 0.9 grams each.  The nicotine content is 8mg/g (0.8%), or 7mg/portion.

A little spoiler:  it isn't like Jakobsson's Fläder in any way, so if you were expecting that like I was, you will be disappointed.  But, it's not a bad snus.  In a lot of ways, it reminds me of GR Sparkling, as I've seen others note as well.  The aroma is much like Sparkling, but more subdued.  It has that mild, champagne-esque smell, but less perfumey.  It has a pretty bright citrus character, and some sweet floral notes that, yes, do remind me of elderflower.  They're just not super pronounced.  The portions are the regular white portion format.  They're pretty soft, but do need some fluffing before lip insertion.  In the flavor profile, it's like a more subdued GR Sparkling with some citrus and floral notes.  In a nutshell.  It has that champagne presence to it, but it's more subdued than GR Sparkling.  I pick up some bright citrus that reminds me of lemon.  Next to that, a faint, semi-sweet floral note mingles in that in some ways does remind me of elderflower.  But it's not bold, at all.  The nicotine strength on this one feels about regular, and the flavor hangs out for about an hour.

Rating and Final Thoughts

Going into this one, I think my expectations were a little high.  Is it a bad snus?  Not at all.  It's a pretty good one.  I like Sparkling, and this one reminds me of that one, but with a different twist on it.  I rated it at 4.08/5.  All in all, it's pretty solid.  It has a great flavor, and it's one that I can see myself enjoying more of throughout the summer.  It's not something I could see becoming an all day snus for me by any means, but it's still a great tasting snus that I can see myself using from time to time.  It's a limited edition, but I found it on Snusdirect.com, so you can grab it from there if you're looking!
