General XRANGE Slim Large Original Portion - Review. 2 April 2015.

Back in 2010, Swedish Match launched General Long Portion a snus which, to this day, I still rank as the best General Snus product ever made.    Fast forward to 2015, and Swedish Match launched the XRANGE, a line of products containing slim portions, lighter can weights, and a lower price tag.  When this one launched, it replaced General Long Portion.  While not a clone of General Long Portion, it was the closest thing to it.  Over the past several years, I've alternated between this and General G3 Slim Strong Original, which launched about the same time but had a higher nicotine content.  I'm reviewing it again because the design has changed.  It is now in a slim can, which is semi-translucent and recyclable.  The other XR products in the series got the star formation, but this one didn't.

The https://snusme.com/xrange-general-slim.html for this one says, "XRANGE General Slim Large Portion has a spicy tobacco taste with notes of bergamot and hints of tea, hay and leather."  Each can weighs 18.9g and has 21 portions for 0.9g portions.  The nicotine content has increased from 9.5mg/g to 10mg/g (1.0%), which is 9mg/portion.

This is the third design change for this product.  On the far left is when it launched, in the middle is what it changed to last year (my favorite design of this product so far), and the far right version is what it looks like now.  

When you open the can, the aroma has the traditional General Snus presence, but milder in nature. There is a mild, earthy tobacco presence, with gentle hints of citrus. The portions are slim, soft, and comfortable. They are moist, but not overly moist. With these, you get a quick release of flavor, but also a long lasting taste. The General flavor is there in the flavor profile, but it's more mild in presence. The tobacco and citrus flavors seem pretty equally present. The tobacco taste is earthy, and mild. The citrus flavor of bergamot is mildly tart, but light. It has a hint of pepper, but it's not as peppery as most General products. The smoky flavor is very, very light. The nicotine level on this one feels to be about regular strength, and the flavor, on average, lasts about an hour - very impressive for an original portion!

Rating and Final Thoughts

I'm not the biggest fan of the new design.  I think the last one was much better.  But, that being said, it's still the same great product.  I rated this one at 3.75 out of 5.  It's one of the best General products on the market, and comes at a much cheaper price than other General products out there.  And, it's one of my favorites!
