Kapten (Original and White Portion) - Reviews. 19 April 2013.

It's been 5 years since I've reviewed Kapten, but I've had quite a few people ask me to revisit it so, here we go! One of the reasons I wanted to revisit these products is because of the EU snus ban. There are a few stores that sell these products, but not General. I know a lot of General fans look for a snus with the citrus/tobacco flavor profile to replace General for them and many seem to enjoy Kapten! If you're new to snus, Kapten is the main line from AG Snus, a snus manufacturer in Denmark. AG Snus describes Kapten as "a novel snus, but the development has been based on the knowhow acquired by 5 generations’ experience manufacturing snus. Kapten is a truly traditional snus, but the taste has been given a modern twist making Kapten a snus of this century."

The flavor description for this product says, "Kapten Original Portion is a snus with a traditional taste of bergamot and tobacco."  This snus comes in an 18 gram can with 24 portions for 0.75 gram portions.  The nicotine content is 10mg/g (1.0%) which breaks down to 7.5mg/portion.

When you open the can, the aroma that greets you is a present citrus smell, along with a light floral sweetness, and some pepper. The portions are soft, comfortable, but not overly moist. They have a quick flavor release, but also last longer than the usual original portion! The taste is very much like the aroma. The citrus flavor is quite present, and is accompanied by a light floral sweetness and some pepper. The longer you have the portion in, the more you'll notice a mild tobacco character in the background, as well. The flavor lasts longer than most original portions due to the less moist portion; I find I can generally enjoy this snus for up to an hour! The nicotine strength feels to be about the regular strength level, as well.

Kapten White (Vit) Portion

The flavor description for this product says, "Kapten White Portion is a snus with a traditional taste of bergamot and tobacco."  This snus comes in an 16 gram can with 24 portions for 0.67 gram portions.  The nicotine content is 10mg/g (1.0%) which breaks down to 6.7mg/portion.

This one is a lot like Kapten Original, but more mild. The aroma is a gentle smell of citrus, a light floral sweetness, and a present peppery aroma. The portions are soft to the touch, but a little lighter in weight than your regular snus portion. They are still comfortable, just smaller than I'm used to. The taste is similar to the original portion version, but more mild. This snus has a mild taste of citrus, accompanied by a gentle floral sweetness, and light hints of pepper. The nicotine on this one doesn't feel too light, and feels to be at about the regular strength level. I found myself impressed with the flavor longevity on this snus; I was able to enjoy this snus for over an hour, almost up to 1.5 hours!

If you're in the EU and are looking for a replacement for General, this is a great option to consider.  Also, if you're looking for a good, traditional tasting snus with a cheaper price, this is definitely something to pick up and try out!
