To kick off 2025, Swedish Match launched three new stronger variants of their core products: Göteborgs Rapé White Strong, General White Strong, and this one - General Original Strong. I have definitely been looking forward to this one. In 2010, I was a big fan of
General Long Strong, and I enjoyed
G.3 General Slim Strong up until it was discontinued. This is an interesting one, so let me jump right into it. The flavor description says "
Spicy tobacco character with hints of bergamot, as well as a hint of tea, hay and leather". Each can weighs a full 24 grams, and has 24 plump portions at 1 gram each. The nicotine content is 14mg/g, which is easy to calculate at 14mg/portion. One interesting note, this is only 1.4mg below General Extra Strong (in nicotine per portion). It makes me wonder if they're going to discontinue that one, or make GES stronger. Who knows.
Before we get into the review, I want to make this note. The bottom of the can notes two ingredients that aren't in regular General Snus - lakrits, and smoke flavor. It's in General Extra Strong, and now in this one!
Opening the can, I pick up the traditional, bold General aroma of rich, spicy tobacco and bergamot. There's a subtle sweet tone to this one, as well as some smokiness. This snus is the whole package. The portions are nice and plump, quite moist, and feel great under the upper lip. They have a quick release of flavor, due to the high moisture level. In the flavor profile, I pick up bergamot, earthy tobacco, and peppery tones first. There's a subtle sweetness, as well as some grassy elements. I notice some smoke in the flavor, but it's certainly not overdone by any means! The nicotine strength on this one definitely feels at the strong level, and has a nice kick to it. The flavor lasts around 45 or so minutes, on average.
Rating and Final Thoughts
I rated this snus at 4.67/5. It's about as close to perfect as a snus can get. From the flavor, to the portions, to the strength, to the longevity of flavor, it's got it all. If you like General but want something with a little more kick to it, you can't go wrong with this one. It's fantastic!
