I've had some requests for these Zar AirPouch products, so I figured it was time I sat down and tried these out. These aren't snus. They're not nicotine pouches. They're not even "pouches" at all. They're like "nicotine paper" if I had to define them. I found quite a few flavors on the website, so I bought as many as I could to try them all out. Granted this isn't usually my thing, I'm more of a snus guy. But, I've had quite a few requests for this stuff, so I said why not, let's mix it up and try something new, shall we? So, today we're going to go in depth and check out the Zar AirPouch product lineup!
So, what's in this stuff? First, these are made in China. According to the bottom of the can, it has nicotine, sweeteners, flavor, pectin, propylene glycol, tween (polysorbate), and pullulon (polysaccharide). The can notes that these are made by the DuraPress process. I have yet to find anything online about this process. They say it's "A patented, medical-grade technology from drug delivery science — now repurposed for oral nicotine". But, I can't find much more about it than that. There's also a used compartment on the bottom of the can if you aren't near a trash bin.
You'll notice these look like little leaves. They're flat (about 0.11mm thin). The can weighs 1.8g and has 20 AirPouches, at 0.09g each. To the touch, they're quite dry. Texture wise, they feel like construction paper. Someone asked me if the jagged edges hurt my gum, but not really. These sit very flat against my gum, and don't move around much. In the strengths, these come in 3, 6, 9, 16, 35mg. I mostly use the 8-10mg range myself, so I picked up 9 and 16mg to try out. The 9mg had a decent effect to it, with a steady delivery at the regular level. The 16mg one was slightly strong, delivering above that regular level. All of these yield a pretty short flavor life, about 30-35ish minutes. Now, let's check out each individual one and talk about aroma and flavor.
One note, I couldn't really find a good flavor description for each of these products online. I usually like to include that in my reviews, but I couldn't really find one for these. So, we'll just wing it!
Strength: 9 and 16mg
My Review: With the Fresh Mint flavor, I note a mild, gentle aroma of peppermint when I open the can. It's not overly sweet, nor is it too bold. I note the same thing in the flavor profile. It's very light, and very mild. It's minty, but not overly sweet by any means.
Zar AirPouch: Wintergreen Bright
Strength: 16mg
My Review: This one has an aroma that is wintergreen-esque, but slightly minty. In both the aroma and the flavor, it's very mild. The minty/wintergreen taste has a subtle sweetness to it, but it's not too bold by any means.
Zar AirPouch: Strawberry Lush
Strength: 16mg
My Review: This one has a pretty nice aroma to it. It has a gentle strawberry character. It's mild, and sweet. The flavor isn't super present, but has a decent taste. The strawberry is fruity, and sweet. It's not too bold, but it has a good amount of presence.
Zar AirPouch: Spearmint Fresh
Strength: 16mg
My Review: This one has a fresh aroma to it, but it's super mild. I pick up a little spearmint, but it's not very present at all. The spearmint flavor is very light, and minty, with a subtle sweetness.
Zar AirPouch: Lemon Crush
Strength: 16mg
My Review: In the aroma, this one has a very faint, very mild aroma of lemon to it. It's the same with the flavor, I can get a little lemon in the taste, but it's incredibly faint.
Zar AirPouch: Cola
Strength: 16mg
My Review: This one is like the Strawberry one, it actually has a decent presence to it. In the aroma and flavor both, I pick up a nice, sweet, flavorful cola. It has a little spice to it, perhaps cinnamon. It's an interesting one.
Zar AirPouch: Citrus
Strength: 16mg
My Review: Like the lemon one, this one is also incredibly mild. It does have a faint citrus aroma to it, but I don't pick up much. In the flavor profile, very much the same. It has a citrusy character to it, but it's not too bold or presence. It's very faint, and very mild.
Rating and Final Thoughts
I'll be honest, these weren't for me. But, I'm a snus guy. I like a thick, plump, full pouch with a lot of flavor. I also occasionally use nicotine pouches. I found these to be quite flat and dry, which doesn't fit what I usually like. I also didn't get a lot of flavor from these. The nicotine effect was pleasant, though. Cola and Strawberry Lush came out on top at 2.83/5. Fresh Mint 9mg sits at 2.42/5. Wintergreen Bright 16mg and Fresh Mint 16mg next at 2.33/5. Lastly, Citrus, Lemon Crush, and Spearmint Fresh 16mg all tied up at 2.17/5.
These are interesting. I can see a market for them, and there will certainly be people who enjoy them. For the tobacco-free crowd, they may enjoy them. For me, they're not really my cup of tea. But, I wanted to sit down and review them because I've had a lot of requests for them. So, there you go! If you want them, you can find them at ZarPouch.shop.
