La Morenita (White Portion) Snus Review - 12 February 2025.

The long awaited day is upon us, and I have GN Tobacco's La Morenita White Portion snus to check out!  First, thanks to PatDuff from Reddit for hooking me up with this can.  To say it's been a long road to here is an understatement.  I originally announced it back in 2014.  Conny Andersson, creator of Islay Whisky Snus, was creating this snus.  Originally called Carmencita, and using Zacapa Rum.  Conny departed GN Tobacco in 2015, but GNT still planned to move forward with this one.  After that, in 2016, La Morenita was unveiled.  The latest news I got on this snus came in 2017, then nothing.  I wouldn't hear anything else about this snus until February of 2024, when La Morenita Loose launched by complete surprise on a Swedish e-store.  It wouldn't be released for the US until early 2025, when SnusPort picked it up.  Though, I did notice today that SwedishProducts is selling the loose version to the US.  I'll have to grab that soon.

Product Details

SwedishProducts has a pretty good description of this snus:  "A well-rounded tobacco blend with the aroma and taste of genuine “El Dorado” rum from Guyana, as the snus has been aged and matured in rum casks.  The snus has a dark character with the taste of robust tobacco that has been aged in rum barrels. To bring out the snuffy taste, the tobacco has been topped with a splash of 8-year aged rum from the Caribbean. Its moisture results in a powerful release of flavor with mild lemon and berry notes. La Morenita has the same tobacco base as Islay Whiskey Tobacco".  Each can weighs 20 grams, and has 20 portions, at 1 gram each.  The nicotine content is 12mg/g, which is 12mg/portion.  On the note of the rum used, I am not too familiar with them, but here's their website if you want to learn more:  https://theeldoradorum.com/.  Also, the catch lid (for used portions) is on the inside lid of this can.

Alright, now the fun stuff, let's do a review!  First, when you first open a can, the alcohol smell is quite strong.  But, over several days, you'll notice it does kind of tone down a bit.  In the aroma, I do notice a present aroma of rum.  Behind it, I pick up notes of dried fruit, and an earthy tobacco base.  The tobacco base is much like Islays, and has an earthy, peaty, slightly smoky tone.  The portions are nice and plump, and semi-dry.  They're not super soft, but over time in the lip (as they get more moist), they do get more soft.  The flavor on this one is pretty solid.  It does have a well rounded, spicy rum flavor.  It has a subtle, dried fruit presence that compliments the taste of rum.  The tobacco base is earthy, and slightly smoky.  It does have a peaty type of nature to it, much like you'll notice with Islay Whisky Snus.  It's very well balanced, and quite flavorful.  In the nicotine strength, it feels around regular, or maybe just a hair above.  The flavor lasts quite a while; each portion usually goes on and on for over an hour.

Rating and Final Thoughts

All in all, this was quite a tasty snus.  It really makes me want to try it in original portion, but especially in loose.  In the end, I gave this one a 4.33/5.  It's so nice to see new snus products, because we rarely see them.  I greatly enjoyed the aroma and flavor of this one, but I do suggest letting the can breathe a bit once you get it so it can balance out.  The alcohol aroma can be a bit much at first.  But after it's mellowed, it's quite a tasty, well balanced snus!
