Gaia Snus x Tevsjö Destilleri Whisky Snus - Review. 8 March 2023.

Today, I'm excited to talk about a new snus I've been looking forward to reviewing.  This is Gaia Snus, a company making small batch, craft snus in Sweden!  As someone with my own snus line and relatively small company, I like supporting others who are small/new/just starting up!  Gaia started in 2015, but was formalized in 2020.  What's cool about them is that they use all organic tobacco.  They actually grow their own tobacco on 5 farms in Sweden.  There isn't as much Swedish grown tobacco as there used to be in snus, so this is a neat addition!  In their products, they use two kinds of tobacco:  Alida, a Swedish tobacco with a milder taste, and Aztek tobacco, one with a more robust taste.  Interesting fact about Aztek tobacco, it was "cultivated and used for ages when Jean Nicot de Villemain introduced tobacco to the French court", which as we know was the origin of nasal snuff which led to the creation of Swedish Snus!  Now, let's get to know this product!

This is their whisky flavored snus.  This was made in collaboration with Tevsjö Destilleri in Sweden, and utilizes their Facit Råg, which is a rye whisky.  Really fun fact, about a year ago we started developing an Artisan Whiskey Snus, and this was one of the whiskies we experimented with.  We didn't end up using it, because we went a different route with the flavor, but it's super cool to see this small company's whisky being used in a snus!

Product Description - "Mild, clear tobacco taste with the round and pleasant taste of a crafted whisky from Tevsjö Destilleri".

Can Contents - 40 grams
Nicotine Strength - 8mg/g (0.8%)

Opening the can, I pick up a rich tobacco aroma along with a subtle smokiness.  There's some oak in the mix, a light touch of dark chocolate, and a little whisky in the back.  This product, in aroma and flavor, reminds me a lot of how the balance is with Islay Whisky Lös Snus, which is one I really enjoy.  The loose is fine ground, and super super moist.  It's easy to bake, and has a quick release of flavor.  In the flavor profile, I pick up a smoky, rich taste of tobacco.  There's a smooth whisky presence to it, along with a slight touch of chocolate and hints of wood.  The nicotine strength really depends on how big you bake your prilla.  I usually go 2-3grams, and at that size I find it has a steady delivery and feels to be regular strength to strong.  The flavor lasts about 40-45 minutes, and the loose stays well packed the whole time!

Rating and Final Thoughts

This was a pretty solid snus.  While we didn't get far into developing our Artisan that used this whisky, it's really neat to see a finalized snus with that flavor.  It's really good.  Nowadays there aren't a lot of new loose products on the market, so I was super excited to try this one out.  I rated it at 4.33/5.  It's a great snus.  And this company is awesome, so definitely show them some love and grab some of their snus.

As far as I know, these are only available in Sweden at this time, and you can grab some from their website at http://gaiasnus.com!
