SiamSnus Long Cut: Wintergreen & Raspberry/Licorice - Reviews. 4 November 2022.

As a lover of snus and all things tobacco, I like to review different products from around the world.  And sometimes, they includes exciting snus products made in other countries.  Today, we're checking out a long-cut, Swedish Snus made in Thailand.  This is Siamsnus!  Siamsnus is made by Jim Gulbrandsen.  Jim is originally from Sweden, but moved to Thailand in 2006.  As it was impossible to get snus, he starts with his grandfather’s snus recipe and began making his own.  Siamsnus uses only locally grown, organic tobacco.  They use no chemicals other than baking soda.  Siamsnus is crafted with hand pressed oils from Thai fruits and herbs.  They now have 4 brands, and up to 45 different tastes and styles.  Today we're checking out their Wintergreen Long Cut and Raspberry/Licorice Long Cut!

Here in my hand you can see the long cut tobacco.  Obviously, it has longer strands of tobacco than your traditional snus.  If you've had lössnus but perhaps have never had long cut, it is similar to single-cut Swedish Snus.  It has longer strands of tobacco.  This isn't a snus that you handbake like with lössnus, it's a snus you take a pinch of and put into your upper lip and enjoy from there!  Both of these cans weigh in at 40 grams.  This one is a 4/4 strength, which I believe is 20-22mg/g based off what they told me last time I talked to them.

SiamSnus Wintergreen Long Cut

Flavor Description:  "A powerful taste of aged tobacco and refreshing wintergreen flavor".

Review:  Opening the can, I notice a smooth, semi-sweet aroma of wintergreen.  It isn't in your face like American wintergreen, but is pretty pleasantly balanced.  The grind of the snus is long cut, so it isn't something you can bake.  Best practice is to take a pinch and just throw it in the upper lip.  I find it to be pretty moist, and to have a solid release of flavor once under my lip.  In the flavor profile, it's a smooth, semi-sweet, gentle taste of wintergreen.  It isn't too overpowering, and I find it well balanced with the dark tobacco base.  The nicotine kicks at around the extra strong level.  I find the flavor hangs out for about 40-45 minutes.

Siamsnus Licorice/Raspberry Long Cut

Flavor Description:  "This delicious snus is flavored by a mixture of licorice and raspberry".

Review:  Like the last one, no handbaking involved.  I just grabbed a pinch, and threw it in.  This one has a nice aroma of raspberry, backed up by a smooth black licorice character.  The flavor is very much the same.  I pick up a present taste of raspberry first.  Right behind it, a smooth, enjoyable character of black licorice mixes in.  These flavors balance out quite well with the dark, rich character of tobacco.  As with the other one, it feels to be around the extra strong level, and has about 40-45 minutes of life in the flavor.

Rating and Final Thoughts

Both of these were pretty solid products!  A little stronger than I prefer, but both were quite enjoyable.  Raspberry Licorice I rated at 3.75/5 and Wintergreen at 3.58/5.  It's a shame these aren't easily available outside of Thailand, because I rather enjoyed them!  If you're in the area that they sell to, check out their website to see all their products.  All in all, good stuff!
