Artisan Kautabak/Chew Bags: Signature Blend (Original & White) - Review. 26 October 2022.

Artisan is my latest creation, and a collaboration I did with The Snus Factory in Sweden. This line was created entirely with the snus community in mind; they picked everything regarding this product.  From the can design, to the name, to the flavors, to the strengths, everything!  I've previously reviewed the snus variants, but what about people who can't get snus?  Well, today we're going to check out those products - the kautabak / "chew bag" variants that are available to the EU and anywhere snus isn't legal, but chewing tobacco is!  These products are made similarly to traditional Swedish Snus (pasteurization, GothiaTek standards), but are slightly different - the portion material is a little thicker, and the tobacco is cut different.  Those differences enable these to be called "chew bags", and sold legally to the EU!  

Artisan is a product line that is truly focused on quality.  On the side of each can, you'll find a craft label bearing my signature.  That should tell you, for something to be "Snubie Approved", it's gotta be good.  It also tells you the strength - stark, or strong.  This was the best middleground for strength, and one the community selected.  But what is most interesting is this - the tobaccos are listed on the side.  In an industry first, Artisan will tell you which tobaccos are in the blend that make up every can of Artisan!  For this product, we used only the best, most premium dark air-cured tobaccos from Guatemala, India, and the United States.  Artisan truly uses an exquisite blend of tobaccos!

Artisan Signature Blend (White)

Flavor Description:  "Contains no added flavor. Dark, air-cured tobacco yields a flavor that is rustic, raw, natural, and earthy. A specially designed portion material and optimized moisture amount which delivers a long lasting, gentle flavor experience with less drip".

Can Contents:  16 grams, 20 chew bags, 0.8g each

Nicotine Strength:  15mg/g (1.5%) / 12mg/portion

Review:  When you open the can, the aroma that you'll encounter is a mild, gentle aroma of tobacco.  It is a dark, rich tobacco base with subtle notes of oak.  The white chew bags are the regular size, but slightly slimmer.  They are dryer, but not too dry.  They also have a comfortable fit in the lip.  The flavor releases slower, due to the white portion format.  It's a mild, but balanced tobacco taste.  The tobacco taste is dark, and rich.  It has an earthiness to it, along with a gentle touch of oak in the background.  It's a very simple, straightforward taste of tobacco!  The nicotine strength on this one has a steady, comfortable delivery at the strong level, so it isn't too overbearing.  The flavor hangs out quite a while; usually I can enjoy these chew bags for over an hour!

Artisan Signature Blend (Original)

Flavor Description:  "Contains no added flavor. Dark, air-cured tobacco yields a flavor that is rustic, raw, natural, and earthy. A specially designed portion material and optimized moisture amount to release a bold, present flavor".

Can Contents:  18 grams, 20 chew bags, 0.9g each

Nicotine Strength:  12mg/g (1.2%) / 10.8mg/portion

Review:  When you open the can, you'll experience a beautiful, bold aroma of tobacco.  It's a dark, rich tobacco base, along with some notes of oak in the background.  The pouches are moist, but not too moist.  I find them to be quite soft, with a great fit in the lip.  They also have a pretty quick release of flavor on them!  The flavor on this one is quite good.  With no added flavor, all you're going to taste is beautiful, rich tobacco.  The tobacco base is dark, earthy, rich, and robust.  I notice some hints of oak, but they aren't too bold.  In the strength, it has a steady delivery at the strong level, but it isn't too strong nor does it kick "too hard".  The flavor usually hangs out for about 45-50 minutes, on average!

Wrap-Up / Final Thoughts

Usually, this is when I'd do a rating.  But, I'm not going to do that.  Since it's my own product, and some have said it's silly for me to rate my own products.  As far as chew bags go, most of them are extra/ultra strong, so Artisan is a nice break from that.  These are more normal/humane strengths.  They are incredibly high quality, so they're something EU chew fans can use and enjoy as their full time, all day every day products.  For me, Signature Blend is my favorite of the bunch.  I love the natural, straightforward tobacco taste.  Not having any added flavor really makes these truly enjoyable, and something unique and special!
