Siamsnus Tobacco (Longcut) - Review. 2 July 2022.

As a lover of snus and all things tobacco, I like to review different products from around the world.  And sometimes, they includes exciting snus products made in other countries.  Today, we're checking out a long-cut, Swedish Snus made in Thailand.  This is Siamsnus!  Siamsnus is made by Jim Gulbrandsen.  Jim is originally from Sweden, but moved to Thailand in 2006.  As it was impossible to get snus, he starts with his grandfather’s snus recipe and began making his own.  Siamsnus uses only locally grown, organic tobacco.  They use no chemicals other than baking soda.  Siamsnus is crafted with hand pressed oils from Thai fruits and herbs.  They now have 4 brands, and up to 45 different tastes and styles.

Both cans of Siamsnus weigh 40 grams.  It is available in two strengths.  The regular one is 16mg/g.  The strong one is 20-22mg/g.  If you've had lössnus but perhaps have never had long cut, it is similar to single-cut Swedish Snus.  It has longer strands of tobacco.  This isn't a snus that you handbake like with lössnus, it's a snus you take a pinch of and put into your upper lip and enjoy from there!  The flavor for this particular one is described thusly:  "A great choice for those who appreciate a strong taste of aged tobacco".  Pictured left, the regular strength version.

When you open the can, you'll encounter an absolutely beautiful aroma.  A straightforward, dark aroma of tobacco greets you.  It's earthy, and dark in nature.  I detect some subtle notes of oak, and almost a faint chocolatey hue.  The tobacco is quite soft, with a good moisture amount, and it pinches quite well before going into the upper lip.  The flavor profile is divine!  The tobacco base is rich, robust, dark, and earthy.  I detect wood notes behind, which remind me most closely of oak.  There is a very faint touch of chocolate, which I believe comes from the tobacco used.  In terms of strength, the regular one feels to be between strong and extra strong.  The strong versions feels to hit right at the extra strong level, or above depending on how much you put in your lip.  The flavor, on a average, lasts about 45 minutes.

Rating and Final Thoughts

All in all, this is an absolutely fantastic snus.  From start to finish, it exudes craft quality, and has a true small batch feel to it.  The flavor is simple, beautiful tobacco.  I liked the regular strength one more, at 3.83/5.  The strong one is a bit more strong than I prefer, but still ended up at 3.75/5.  At the end of the day, though, this is a delicious snus that is for the true snus connoisseur.  Lovers of tobacco will find a deep appreciation for this one!
