I've been a fan of
Nordic Snus AB's LD series for many years, ever since I first tried it back in 2009. I also consider their Salmiak flavor to be the top of the mountain when it comes to licorice flavored products. When I saw this one released, I was rather intrigued to try it out. And, it definitely didn't disappoint! The product
details for this one describes it as having a "
full bodied taste of tobacco with a subtle hint of licorice". Like other LD products, each can weighs 18 grams. There are 20 portions in the can, weighing in at 0.9 grams each. The nicotine content is 14mg/g, or 1.4%. With 0.9 gram portions, that breaks down to 12.6mg/portion. Of course, putting it at the the "stark" or strong level.
When you open the can, you'll notice a rich, present taste of black licorice. I notice a light sweetness to it, along with a robust tobacco base. There's also a dab of pepper in the mix. The pouches are quite moist. I mean, look at this photo. They're nice and plump, soft, and have a quick flavor release once putting one under your lip. The flavor is quite good, as good as expected with an LD Salmiak snus. The black licorice taste is present, and has a subtle sweetness to it. There is some pepper in the mix, and a robust, well rounded tobacco base. The nicotine strength feels to be a little stronger than regular, but not too strong. The flavor lasts about 45-50 minutes, on average.
Rating and Final Thoughts
If you like regular LD Salmiak, but want something stronger, this one is a no-brainer. It's a great snus. I rated this one at 4/5. It has the same great taste as regular LD Salmiak, but with a little extra nicotine. In terms of other licorice snus products on the market, I've always said that LD Salmiak is one of the best. If you've never had it, it's definitely worth checking out.
