It's been a bit since I've done a review on LD, so I figured it was time to write up a brand new article about these quality budget offerings from Nordic Snus AB in Sweden! Also, since I last reviewed it, there's been a few changes. One, in the original portion version they've dropped the hinged catch lid and switched to a regular catch lid. In terms of the portions, they've switched to a new, softer portion material. I've been a fan of LD since 2009 and have found it to be probably the best budget snus on the market. I think their quote on their website says it best: "Anyone can make a cheap snus, the art is to make a really good snus at a really good price". Yes, LD is a cheaper product, but it's one that I've always said has a premium taste at a value price. This one has the familiar, traditional bergamot taste that you'd find in a General, for example. In this review we'll be talking about Stark Original Portion, and Stark White Portion!
When you open the can, a bright, present aroma of bergamot greets you. The tobacco aroma comes through in a robust, present way, right behind the bergamot. The pouches are nice and plump, comfortable in the lip, with a decent drip and flavor release. The flavor profile is really nicely balanced. it doesn't taste cheap, either. For a budget snus, the taste isn't low-quality. In the flavor, the tobacco and bergamot are pretty well balanced. The tobacco taste is robust, and rich. The bergamot is tart, and about as equally present as the tobacco taste. It's not overly salty, nor is it overly peppery. The strength feels to be right at the strong level, and the flavor lasts about 45 minutes, on average.
When you open the can, you'll notice a mild base tobacco accompanied by a gentle but tart aroma of bergamot. It's not as peppery or as spicy as say, a General White Portion. In regards to the portion material, I noticed it more with this one than the other one. The white portion material is much softer, and more comfortable in the lip. The flavor is more mild than the original portion version, but just as well balanced. The tobacco base is a little milder in taste, but well rounded. The bergamot flavor comes through in a more subtle way, but still has a tart aura to it. In terms of the nicotine strength, it feels to be about the strong level, but not too strong. The flavor lasts around an hour, sometimes a little bit more.
Flavor: "LD Stark is made from tobacco leaves with a higher nicotine content. A robust, tobacco taste with a fresh, citrusy taste of bergamot".
Can Contents: 18g, 20 portions, 0.9g each
Nicotine Strength: 14mg/g, 12.6mg/portion

Nicotine Strength: 14mg/g, 11.2mg/portion
Rating and Final Thoughts
As I mentioned before, LD may be a budget snus, but the taste is anything but. It packs a solid taste but at a cheaper price. I personally prefer the Stark version of LD over the non-stark version. Not because of the strength, but because the tobacco base has a nicer flavor to it, it's more robust. I rated the original portion version at 4.17/5, higher than the white portion version at 4/5. Mainly because I get more flavor from it. If you like traditional flavored snus, LD is my next favorite right after General. It's one that's definitely worth a try.
