Grizzly Dark Long Cut (American Moist Snuff/Dip) - Review. 16 November 2021.

Recently I announced that Snubie.com is getting back to basics - and that means more tobacco content.  I've had some requests to review American moist snuff/dipping tobacco, and as a tobacco enthusiast I figured what the heck, why not.  I'm a snus guy, don't get me wrong.  But I do enjoy all things tobacco!  I still believe snus to be the best harm reduced option for smokeless tobacco enjoyment/smoking cessation.  But these products are a fun break from time to time.  Grizzly is a relatively new brand, introduced in 2001 by the American Snuff Co (a subsidiary of Reynolds American).  It's a popular brand and has 25% of total US market share.  This one, as opposed to some other Grizzly products, says on the can that it contains 100% American tobacco.

I was curious to check this one out because I'm a big fan of the Grizzly range.  Of the dip products I've reviewed, I think you get the most quality and bang for your buck with the Grizzly line.  I really dig the Grizzly Natural Extra Long Cut, so when I heard about a dark fired tobacco Grizzly, I was naturally curious to explore.  The aroma of this one is quite strong and present compared to Natural ELC.  The tobacco and smoke aroma comes through pretty clearly.  The tobacco base is darker, and almost seems to have a spiciness to it.  It reminds me of a straight flavored dip, but not as sweet, if that makes sense.  The tobacco is pretty easy to pack in the lip, and has a nice release of flavor.  In the taste, it's really interesting.  It's like a mix of natural, but with the spice presence of a straight dip.  The tobacco is a darker base, and comes through in a present way.  I notice the smoky notes clearly, along with dark notes of wood.  The spiciness, again, makes me think of straight, but it doesn't have that sweetness to it.  The flavor kicks around for about 40-45 minutes, and I find the strength to feel comparable to other dip products at about the regular strength mark.

Rating and Final Thoughts

This one wasn't bad.  I think Grizzly Natural Extra Long Cut has a better taste, but I still enjoyed this one. It has an interesting, unique flavor.  It's kind of like a less sweet-straight dip, but with a more smoky taste to it and a darker tobacco base.  I rated it at 3.91/5.  That's not a bad score; I find I generally seem to rate Grizzly products higher.  I think for the price segment it's sitting in, you definitely get a good product at a lower price.
