Alida (Original Portion) - Review (Discontinued). 26 September 2019.

NOTE:  This product has been discontinued and is no longer for sale.

I saw this product on SnusBolaget, so my friend Michael in Sweden grabbed me a can. It appears to be a new small batch/craft snus from a new company called Monopolets. Browsing their website, this is what they say about themselves: "We have taken up an old tradition and cultivated and grown tobacco for our unique snus. Everything is done with tremendous love and care from seed to finished snus." Their website also says this product is 100% organic, has 100% Swedish tobacco, and is made with 100% love. You can’t beat that!  They also have a flavor section on their website, which says this product is made with Alida tobacco, bergamot, and thyme.

Alida tobacco is interesting, because it's only grown on the island of Gotland in Sweden. That may sound familiar, as Gotlandssnus uses Alida tobacco for their products, too.   The flavor description for this one says, "An exclusive original portion from the snus manufacturer Monopolet. The tobacco is 100% Swedish and organically grown in Fjälkinge, Skåne." Each can weighs 18.5g, and has 20 portions, for 0.93g portions. The nicotine content is 8mg/g (0.8%), or 7.76mg/portion.

When you open the can, the aroma is an earthy, peppery tobacco taste. It has almost a tea-like presence to it, and a light hint of bergamot. The portions are plump, and incredibly moist; they remind me a lot of American moist snuff pouches. The taste is an earthy, slightly peppery tobacco taste. Like the aroma, for some reason it makes me think of tea. There’s also a hint of bergamot in the back. The nicotine feels to be about the regular strength level, and the flavor lasts about 40-45 minutes on average.  This one has a really nice taste to it, and I love how moist they make these portions.  I don't know if this will ever be available to the US or not, so if you're in Sweden and see this one online - grab a can, it's pretty tasty stuff.
