Thunder X (Chew Bags) - Review (Discontinued). 17 January 2018.

NOTE:  This product has been discontinued and is no longer for sale.

Thunder X Snus was launched in 2016 as the strongest snus in the world, clocking in at 45mg/g. It makes sense that V2 would want to bring that over into the chew bag world, so today we are going to be talking about Thunder X (Chew Bags)! The flavor description for this product says, "Thunder X White Dry Chew has a strong mint/menthol flavor". This product comes in a 13.2 gram can with 22 portions for 0.6 gram portions. The nicotine content is 45mg/g (4.5%), which breaks down to 27mg/portion.  I know 45mg/g may sound intimidating, but the portions are light in weight, so it doesn't deliver that full 45mg/g total nicotine strength.  However, that doesn't mean these aren't strong!

In case you're new to chew bags, here is a V2 chew bag and a V2 snus portion, cut open to show a comparison between the two. This is how V2 describes their chew bag products: “The tobacco leaves are heated and moistened with steam so they can be cut into smaller pieces. The tobacco for Thunder Chewing Bags are pieces cut with a length of between 5 - 50 mm and a width of 0.6-0.8 mm. The bags used are specially designed to be chewed to release flavor and nicotine. It is made from a paper with a special weave which is thicker and much stronger than the type of bag that snus is packed in. Thunder Chewing Bags are also fundamentally different from the other chewing tobacco products on the market by being cut tobacco in small bags while others are made from spun tobacco.” Though these are called "chew bags" and V2 mentions the pouches being able to be chewed, I have never done that with these or any other chew bags. I simply put them in my upper lip and enjoy them like snus!

When you open the can, a sharp mint smell greets you, which is balanced out by notes of menthol. The portions are rather dry to the touch, and I suggest fluffing them as the tobacco seems to be concentrated to one side of the pouch. Though they are dry, they get more comfortable the longer you have them in. You'll encounter a burn with these when you put them in, and as that fades out you're left with a gentle cooling sensation in the lip. The taste is a pretty mild taste of mint, and a gentle tobacco flavor in the background. The mint comes across in a very mellow way, and there are light notes of menthol in the background. The nicotine strength is quite strong, and it comes on rather quickly, as well. It feels to be a touch stronger than an extra strong. I don't do a lot of really strong snus, so I can't keep this in for very long, but from past experiences I've found most chew bags last anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half in the lip. I imagine it's much the same with this one.

If you like mint flavored products and want something with a really strong kick, this is definitely worth checking out.
