Golden Deer - Chinese Snus. 12 May 2017.

I stumble across the most random and interesting stuff when browsing Instagram. I found photos posted by two users, @yukon_white and @masher, of a snus product made and sold in China called Golden Deer.  From what I've gathered from these photos, it comes in two flavors - Black Tea and Deep Frozen.  I can only assume the Black Tea version has a tea like flavor and the Deep Frozen version is perhaps a mint flavor.

Looking at the bottom of the can, there are instructions on how to use for people who may be new to snus.  "Simply place a pouch between your upper lip and gum for more than 30 minutes.  Discard directly after use."  It is interesting that this is in English, as is part of the warning label.  From what I can tell this product is only sold in China.

The Instagram user @masher posted this photo and the one of the bottom of the can for me because I was curious about what else I could find out about this product.  It is interesting that this is 100% China grown tobacco.  The product is produced by Shanghai New Tobacco Product Research Institute (I'm assuming, but the photo was cut off).  An address is also listed. From what I've been able to gather, Golden Deer is a trademark of Shanghai Tobacco Group which is a subsidiary of the state-owned company China Tobacco.  Needless to say, I'm intrigued by this product.  I doubt I'll ever find it or review it, but I wanted to share this because I found it to be interesting!  If you've had it, sound off in the comments and let us know what you think about it!

  1. Looks cool. Interesting to see Snus take off in other non-Nordic parts of the world. It would be nice to see American Snus done right.

  2. My friend brought some back from china and all I can sat is wow! These are amazing, great taste and work well. However, they are a bit weaker than their american counterparts so I use two or three at a time depending on how much of a buzz I want. I only wish I could import these all the time!!
