Skruf Original Stark Portion (Ecological) - Review (Discontinued). 17 April 2015.

Another new product in the Skruf Ecological line is Skruf Original Stark Portion. This product is made using 100% natural/ecological tobacco and is part of a new line that Skruf has added to their product catalog. It's been a few years since I reviewed Skruf Stark Portion, but it's one that I throw in to an order every now and then.  The new cans are very classy and sleek and sport a much larger catch lid, which is great for people like me who are always on the go and need somewhere to stash their used portions.   On the Skruf Scale of Power, this one is a 3/4, meaning it's not the strongest product they make, but it still packs a punch!

When you open a can, the aroma that comes through is a very bold, earthy, rich tobacco smell with a hint of bergamot.  The slightly sweet aroma of rose oil, which is common of Skruf products, isn't detectable with this product, however.  There is a presence of bergamot in the smell, as well.  When it comes to the flavor, this one is a heavy hitter.  There is a bold, dark, rich, earthy and natural tobacco flavor that comes through.  It is the most present taste in this snus and stays in the front the entire time you have a portion in.  The flavor of bergamot/citrus is very mild and subdued and does not take away from the tobacco taste, but it does compliment the flavor of tobacco quite well.  This one is different from the old Skruf Stark in that the flavor of rose oil and the light sweetness doesn't come through, and the bergamot flavor isn't as pronounced.  The tobacco taste of this one is much more present and definitely tastes like it is of a higher quality than the tobacco taste in the previous Skruf Stark Portion.    The flavor profile of this one is definitely tobacco centric.

I will say that I do enjoy the rose oil taste of the previous Skruf Stark Portion, but I'm approaching this product as a different product from that. This snus, standing on it's own, has a great flavor.  I miss the rose oil taste, so that does weigh a little on my review of this one, but I will say that the product can definitely stand on it's own.  The taste is great, it has a good nicotine kick - and even though it isn't identical to the non-organic Skruf Stark Portion, it is still a very enjoyable snus.
