Chess Snus Review (Discontinued). 19 October 2010.

This product has been discontinued and is no longer produced.

Earlier today I wrote a preview about a new snus coming from V2 that Northerner.com was selling, and no sooner than I had finished writing it a package with Chess SNUS (as they spell it) miraculously appeared on my doorstep. Am I being watched? Probably. Regardless, for those who missed the preview or are just finding this article, here's a little of the foreknowledge that I shared about this new snus.

One of the first things that had me curious was the 50/50 mix between cigar tobacco and snus tobacco. Would this affect the moisture of the snus? Much to my surprise, this snus is much more moist than most - it seems to be higher than 50% moisture content. The portions are very juicy. The aroma of this snus is very interesting. It reminds me of one of the V2 Original Test snuses - OT-2, in that it has this kinda musty smell to it. No citrus hints or notes present - it's just a simple dark tobacco smell with this musty presence to it. However, it's no lightweight in the taste department. It's got a hell of a salt flavor going on, a rich tobacco taste, and a little bitterness mixed in too. I don't know if that's the licorice that the product description has, but it's a possibility. If you like a lot of salt in your snus, a simple tobacco flavor, and aren't a big fan of citrus - you'll probably like this. I can tell it isn't flavored to match the traditional snus flavor profile. In the end it's pretty interesting stuff. It has a unique flavor so if you're looking for something different to try - you'd probably enjoy it.  But for me, at the end of the day, I couldn't get into it.
