One of the most popular nicotine pouch brands in Europe, Pablo, has come to the USA. I've spoken with the folks doing their distribution recently, and it seems as though they have, as far as I've been told, begun to pursue the PMTA process to begin legal sales in the US. I've reviewed some Pablo products in the past, but generally they have been a little more strong than I prefer. However, this range has a little more strength variety and isn't as focused on high octane levels like we see with their SKUs in the EU. Pablo is manufactured by a company called NGP, and they are based in Denmark. They have been around since 2017ish, and have a pretty loyal following of fans in Europe. Today, we're going to get to know the products that are coming to the US, and do a quick overview of the brand as a whole, and what you can expect locally.
Pablo Watermelon Gum
Pablo Frosted Ice
Pablo is a tobacco-free nicotine pouch. Much like Velo Plus and others in the US, these are the slim/moist format pouches. They have a soft feel, and a quick release of flavor and nicotine. The cans weigh 16 grams, and have 20 pouches per can, at 0.8g each. This is bigger than US market products, but average for what is on the EU market. Also, with a lot of the pouches you'll get a cooling feeling against the gum, which is common of a lot of EU products, they really like their cooling agents.
The US Pablo comes in 6 strengths. These strengths are in the mg/pouch level: 3mg, 6mg, 9mg, 13mg, 20mg, and 24mg. The lower end are pretty common to the US. The higher end is something we don't see much of outside of the Siberia Nicotine Pouches range. From a market perspective, it is good to offer consumers variety. But, with the FDA focusing in on how much nicotine is in products, this may be something they aren't the biggest fans of. It's not the government's place to tell you what you can and can't use, but in the US they have taken that power, unfortunately. The 3mg strength is pretty light, I don't feel much from it. The 6mg strength is lower, and feels a little below the regular mark. The 9mg strength was the one I felt most comfortable with, and felt firmly at the regular level. The 13mg strength as a little over regular, and was probably the next highest one I'd use. The 20mg and 24mg strengths were too high for me personally, and hit a bit too much for me to enjoy.
Pablo: What flavors and strengths are available?
I checked their website, PabloPouch.com, and found a few sections of what flavor and strengths they offer. The information is kind of scattered, so I put together a quick spreadsheet. As of right now, you can't get every strength in every flavor. Some products only come in high strength. Some are a bit more diverse, like their Classic and Original flavors. But as you can see, the flavor list is pretty widespread, with something seemingly to offer everyone. I have a lot of them, in various strengths, and I'm going to do a quick overview and talk about the flavors with some mini-reviews. The only ones I don't have today are Blueberry Peach, Freeze, Frosted Ice, Grape Ice, Kiwi, Original Ice Cold, Original Red, and Passionfruit. So, let's check out the flavors!
My Thoughts: This one has a sweet flavor to it. The watermelon flavor is present, but does have a chewing gum like flavor to it. There also seems to be a subtle cooling tone to it, as I mentioned earlier. But the flavor itself isn't bad at all. People who like fruity or sweet flavors will probably dig it.
Pablo Vanilla Cola
My Thoughts: Vanilla Cola is always a favorite taste of mine. When I opened the can, the aroma that come through was quite lovely. The pouches, you'll notice, are a little brown. Certain flavors tend to stain the pouches, which seems to have occurred here. In the taste, this one is actually pretty tasty. It has a present cola taste, and smooth, gentle hints of vanilla. It's sweet, and does have that cooling nature to it, as well.
Pablo Tropical Punch
My Thoughts: This one definitely has that Tropical Punch essence to it. It's fruity, and has a berry presence to it. But it also seems to be balanced out with some citrus notes, as well. And yes, the cooling presence is in this one, too.
Pablo Smooth
My Thoughts: These types of flavors - "smooth", "chill", "original", thing of that nature, are popular in the US. So it was smart of NGP to include these in their range. This one doesn't have much of an aroma to it. Same in the flavor profile. I suspect this one is an unflavored variant. I also don't pick up as much of that cooling agent in this one.
Pablo Original X-Ice Cold
My Thoughts: This one is a minty one, but it's pretty smooth, and mellow. The flavor is mild, but seems to be a light taste of peppermint, along with a very subtle sweetness. It also has that familiar cooling sensation from it.
Pablo Original
My Thoughts: This one seems to be, perhaps, a tobacco-flavor clone. Well, nothing tastes like tobacco, but I think that's what they're going for. It's smooth, and lightly sweet. It seems to almost have a caramel-esque type of essence to it, perhaps some wood notes.
Pablo Mango Ice
My Thoughts: This one has a tropical type of flavor to it. The mango taste is mild, and has a gentle sweetness to it. And yes, with the word "Ice" in the product name, you can already tell this one is going to have more of that cooling agent type of essence to it. So, the mango flavor comes through with a refreshing backbone to it.
Pablo Frosted Mint
My Thoughts: This one, much like the Original X-Ice Cold one I talked about previously, is a bit on the milder end. But this one seems to be more on the spearmint side of things than peppermint. It has a subtle sweetness to it, and some cooling nature in the lip, too.
Pablo Double Lemonade
My Thoughts: Citrus flavors are pretty common in US market ranges. So, it was natural that there would be one in this range. This one has a pretty predominant lemon character to it. It's tangy, and has a light sweetness to it. And of course, some of that cooling presence to it, as well.
Pablo Double Cola
My Thoughts: This one is quite tasty. It has a present, sweet flavor of cola. Cola isn't a super common flavor in the US, so it's good to see it, I just wish they offered it in lower strength options. This one is only a high octane Pablo product. It has a little cooling nature to it as well, which makes this one like an icy sort of cola experience.
Pablo Cold Mint
My Thoughts: Another mint one! Yes, there are a lot of mint products in the Pablo family. This one is a present, icy aroma of peppermint. There seems to be perhaps a subtle hint of menthol to it, as well. This one is more bold than the previous two mint options. It is also a little sweet, but not overly done.
Pablo Classic
My Thoughts: This one seems to be like the Original one, but it's less sweet. It also seems to be more earthy, and has more notes of wood to it than I picked up with original. But, this one is mild, well balanced, and something you can use day in and day out as a daily driver. I suspect this is one that is in the same vein, as a tobacco-esque clone, but pretty mild in nature.
Pablo Chill
My Thoughts: This one is a lot like the Pablo Smooth one. I suspect it's an unflavored one, as I don't detect much flavor other than the pouch material itself. And, perhaps a bit of a cooling agent to this one, as well.
Pablo Cherry Cola
My Thoughts: Another cola flavor! I enjoy cola tastes, so I was pleased to see how many they brought to the US. But, sadly not many lower strength options in this flavor. This one is sweet, and has a nice cola taste to it. It also has a subtle, fruity hint of cherry to it. And of course, you already know, some of that cooling agent adds an icy character to this one.
Pablo Blue Razz
My Thoughts: And lastly, it has come down to Blue Razz! Blue Raspberry is a great flavor, and one I've been glad to see more companies making. Opening the can, the raspberry aroma that comes through is gentle, and mild. It has a subtle sweetness to it, but it's not overdone by any means. Flavor-wise it's pretty tasty stuff. It has an enjoyable raspberry flavor. The raspberry flavor is present, and lightly sweet. And yes, there is a little cooling agent that comes through to add a fresh feeling to this one, as well. But all in all, this one isn't bad and has a pretty enjoyable flavor to it.
Update 8 January 2025
I found some of the flavors I haven't reviewed yet over on DripFlavors.com, so here's some more thoughts!
My Thoughts: This is a super popular Pablo flavor in Europe, so I'm not surprised this one is included in the US flavors. Opening the can, the aroma is a relatively smooth, lightly sweet smell of peppermint. The flavor is pretty mild, and comes across as a gentle peppermint flavor. It has some sweetness to it, but isn't overly sweet.
My Thoughts: I tried Pablo Grape Ice a few months ago, in the EU Pablo Gold series. Opening up the can, this has a nice grape smell. It's like opening a can of grape soda. I didn't notice this one to be as mentholated in the smell as the EU Pablo Grape Ice, but it did have a touch of it in the mix. The pouches are brown, but again, a lot of that is due to the flavorings they use in these. It's pretty common with some products. The flavor is really good. It's not a nice grape taste. Like Grape Kool-Aid, or a nice can of grape soda. I really enjoy these. Probably one of the better flavors in the US Pablo line.
Wrap-Up / Final Thoughts
All in all, a pretty interesting range. The strengths are a little all over the place, but there are some good flavors in there. And many of them you can get in a lower strength level, which I appreciate. If I had to make recommendations based on my favorites, it would be Blue Razz, Cherry Cola, Classic, Double Cola, Double Lemonade, and Original. I'd suggest Vanilla Cola if it came in a lower strength, but sadly it's too strong for me.
I don't know what their US plans are, but if they're investing millions into the PMTA process, they'll probably want to be in stores. As of right now you can get them online at Drip Flavors, and Lighter USA. I imagine in time, that should expand more. But there you have it, Pablo has come to the USA, and looks ready to shake things up.
