Preface: This snus was homemade, and is for personal use only. It is not for sale.
This snus was truly a labor of love. When I do reviews, I usually share a product description. After over 15 years of reviewing snus, I put together a pretty fun one. So, I wrote one up for this snus: “Snubie Farm Blend 2023 is a small batch snus made with hand-selected tobaccos. The tobacco has been grown, air-cured, aged, and produced into lös snus on Snubie Farm in Arkansas, USA. This snus contains a blend of Havana Gold (grown in 2022), as well as the 2023 crop consisting of Havana 608, Virginia 509, Small Stalk Black Mammoth, and Burley 64. The tobacco was grown with no pesticides, and produced with no added flavor and minimal ingredients.” We put a craft seal on this one, like with Artisan, which lists the tobaccos used and bears my signature. The strength is listed as "stark", but that's just a carryover from the old labels. I don't know what the strength is on this one. But, we'll do a review of it and see how it feels!
I'm pretty pleased with how the snus turned out. The grind is easy to work with, and the tobacco has a decent amount of moisture. It bakes well, and stays pretty well packed in the lip. The aroma that comes through with this one is quite beautiful. With no added flavor in the recipe, the tobacco character really shines through. It's dark, and bold. The tobacco base is rich, earthy, raw, and robust. It carries a little hint of spice to it, which I suspect is from the Havana tobacco. Under the lip, I find the flavor to have a nice built to it. The taste is very tobacco-centric. The tobacco flavor is rich, and luxurious. It is raw, and bold. It's not super salty, which I was curious about. It has a little spice to it, which I think is from the Havana tobacco. The flavor is very well rounded, and impressive. The nicotine strength is pretty decent. I baked close to 2 grams, and I find it to feel strong, but not exceedingly strong. The snus stays well packed in the lip, and releases flavor comfortably for about 45ish minutes.
In the end, I really dig this snus. I mean, to me it's cool that I grew this in my soil, on my farm, and aged and made it into finished snus here. But even if this wasn't mine, I'd be quite impressed. This snus is what I wanted Artisan Signature Blend Loose to be, but I never got to make it, sadly. It turned out truly special though. I mean, look, only 12 cans. That makes it about as small batch as it gets. So, I'm going to fight the urge to use it all. I want to freeze some, because as we know the FDA is at war with snus. And, I'm growing a batch right now, so it would be cool to compare flavors with the next batch that I make whenever it's ready and finished. If you're interested in making snus, I put some links at the beginning of this article. Also, feel free to join the DIY Snus Subreddit! It's a lot of fun, and a great way to ensure you'll have snus in the future if the US government continues to wage war on snus users and tobacco harm reduction.
Today is the day, and after almost 2 years of 'production', I am going to do a little article about my first ever batch of homemade snus! If you missed it, I did a full video on the production of this batch of snus, as well as a short video on how to make your own snus at home. There's also an article here about making snus at home. After all that process, I have my own homemade snus, which I have dubbed the "Snubie Farm Blend 2023 Small Batch Lös". Small batch, because it was my first decent harvest, but only yielded enough to make about 12 cans. The design may look familiar. My friend Leon, who did the design for my Artisan Snus in the past, made me some custom labels I could use for my snus cans.
I started this snus back in February of 2023. I started aging it in the fall of 2023. It aged until May of 2025 (a little over a year and a half). In total, it took me about 2 years to make this snus from seed to can. You don't have to age it, but I wanted to, to see if it made a difference. I may not age my next batch, or I may only age half of it, just to see if it makes a big difference in flavor. We'll see!
