I've seen these Noto products online for a while, and have been quite curious to try them out. Until recently, they weren't available on any stores that ship to the US. These are made by The Habit Factory, makers of Strengbergs, Klint, and Fix. I recently saw these on Snussie.com, and grabbed some to check out. With the FDA "red-listing" every product they can, there's not a lot we can get in the US anymore. I've been keeping a list of my recommendations for the US market up, but more and more products keep getting red-listed, so I try to review more, in hopes of adding them to that list. The Noto range fills a lot of the gaps in on that recommendations list (floral flavors, traditional flavors, etc), so I figured it was time to pen a review of these! The name, Noto, means "No Tobacco", from what I've heard. Each can weighs 14 grams and has 20 pouches, for 0.7g each. The nicotine content is 16mg/g, which breaks down to 11.2mg/pouch. Before we do the reviews, let's discuss their commonalities.
Commonalities
The Pouch - The pouches are slim, semi-moist, and soft, with a comfortable mouthfeel.
The Nicotine Strength - All of these feel to be a little above the regular strength mark.
The Flavor Longevity - The flavor longevity seems to be about 30-40 minutes for all of these.
Now that we've dicussed what they have in common, let's discuss their differences: aroma and flavor!
Flavor Description: "Pine needles, nordic cedar, delicate spices and mint"
Review: I'm a big outdoors guy, so this is one I was looking forward to checking out. Opening the can, I pick up a present aroma of pine, along with a light touch of cedar, and mint. It smells kind of cologn-y. The flavor of this one reminds me of cologne. I pick up the rustic balance of pine and cedar, along with a faint touch of mint. Honestly, this would make a good cologne.
Noto Pimentón
Flavor Description: "Pimento blend, green mango, orange, and aromatic wood"
Review: When I saw this one, I was curious if the name meant "pimento". I looked it up, and pimentón is apparently Spanish smoked paprika. Regular paprika is "paprikapulver" in Swedish. Pimento is "kryddpeppar". And there's your Swedish lesson for the day! Opening the can, I pick up a slightly spicy aroma of pepper and paprika. The flavor is spicy, and peppery. It's almost a mix of paprika and wood. It also has a light sweetness to it. This one was intereting!
Noto Jasmine
Flavor Description: "Jasmine flower, rose water, peach, and mandarin"
Review: I'm a big fan of floral products. There aren't many out there, so this is one I was quite curious to check out. Opening the can, it is definitely floral. I pick up cherry blossom, rose, and jasmine flower. The flavor is floral, and lightly sweet. The rose water taste comes through clearly, along with subtle hints of jasmine. I don't pick up any peach, but it is lightly citrusy, perhaps the mandarine.
Noto Green Tea
Flavor Description: "Floral green, zesty mandarin, and delicate white woods"
Review: As a big green tea drinker, this is another one that piqued my interest. When I open the can, this one does have that aroma of tea to it. It's slightly floral, and has a light hint of orange. The flavor is lightly sweet, and has a nice taste of tea. There is a little citrus in the base, and some light floral notes. Not bad stuff!
Noto Ginger
Flavor Description: "Ginger, bitter orange, chili, white blossom, and wood"
Review: This one has a spicy aroma to it. I pick up ginger, orange, and a slight touch of chili. In the flavor, the spicy flavor of ginger is present, and has the added spiciness of chili. There's also a little citrusy orange taste to this one, too.
Noto Cedar
Flavor Description: "Cedar wood blend, mint, and forest rosemary"
Review: Like pine, this is another one I was curious to check out. This one also has a cologne-like aroma to it. I pick up the rosemary clearly, followed by a little cedar wood, and some mint. In the flavor, the cedar and rosemary come through clearly, along with a subtle taste of mint. This is an interesting one, that's for sure.
Noto Bergamia
Flavor Description: "Italian bergamot, neroli flower, and aromatic rosemary"
Review: This is the one I was most curious to try out, of the entire Noto line. There aren't really any good bergamot nicotine pouches out there. The last one I tried that was good was the XR one, but it's been discontinued. Opening the can of Noto Bergamia, I notice a clear aroma of bergamot, along with light tones of pepper. In the flavor profile, the bergamot is clear, and lightly tart. There's a light pepper tone, a hint of rosemary, and light floral notes. This one was quite good.
Rating and Final Thoughts
These were really interesting to try. It's nice to see a company making more "grown up" flavors. With so many pouches out there that are super-fruit-double-bubble-berrymint flavored, it's nice to see some made for normal folks who like normal tastes. Bergamia came out on top, at 3.5/5. Next, Green Tea at 3.33/5. After that, Jasmine at 3.13/5. These three were my favorite of this bunch, and I definitely recommend them. The last ones, Pimenton, Cedar, Ginger, and Pine were not favorites of mine. They rated at 3/5. They were okay, but not great or anything. So, I'd suggest Bergamia, Green Tea, and Jasmine.
