Nordic Snus AB has brought forth a new addition to their Vårgårda line! Today, we have Vårgårda Bärstig to check out. I did some Google-Fu and found that Bärstig translates to "bear path". Interesting! I enjoy the Vårgårda line, especially their
Vårgårda Bär and
Vårgårda Skog. This one has an interesting flavor, described as "
a taste of blackcurrant, lingonberry, roseship and rowanberry with a touch of smokiness". If you're not familiar with
rowanberry, don't feel bad, I wasn't either. I've never had one, but it's said to have a tart/sour type of flavor to it. We'll see how that translates in the snus. Each can weighs 20 grams and has 20 portions, weighing 1 gram each. The nicotine content is 10mg/g, and with 1 gram portions that's 10mg/portion.
Opening up the can, I pick up an earthy aroma of tobacco. There's a slight hint of rosehip, along with a slightly bitter dark berry presence. The portions are nice and plump, semi-dry, with a soft feel in the lip. The flavor release is slower due to the white portion format, but it does have a nice development and build to it. The flavor profile is interesting, and pretty unique. I pick up a gentle, well balanced, earthy tobacco base. A slightly tart, bitter dark berry flavor comes through, along with hints of rose hip. It's not super smoky, but I can pick out a very mild tone of smokiness in the background. The nicotine feels to be about regular strength on this one. I find the flavor to have a good amount of life on it, hanging out a good hour, on average!
Rating and Final Thoughts
I rated this one at 3.67/5. It was a pretty interesting flavor, and definitely unique. I don't think it's something I'd use all the time, but I could see it being something I grab a can of here and there. Honestly, and I've said this before, no new snus is a bad snus. We're at a point where we don't see new snus anymore, so I celebrate any new product. I encourage folks to buy them when they come out, to show snus companies that we snus fans are still here, and we appreciate them making new products!
