Thunder Nicotine Pouches: Frosted - Review. 21 July 2021.

The folks at V2 Tobacco, now owned by Swedish Match, have released some nicotine pouches in their popular Thunder brand!  I found them at SnusExpress' EU store and a friend helped me acquire them for review.  It was also brought to my attention that SnusCENTRAL.com just added these, so international/US consumers can order them from there.  These are the first nicotine pouches in the Thunder series, and many of them have common counterparts in the Volt or Zyn series.  While these are made in Denmark at V2 (Swedish Match Denmark), I've been surprised to see their quality is on par and almost identical to the Volt/Zyn counterparts!  In terms of "Frosted", there isn't a Volt or Zyn product called "Frosted".  However, this is a spearmint flavor, and there are spearmint version of Volt and Zyn:  Zyn Spearmint and Volt Spearmint Breeze.  I was curious to see if this one would compare to Thunder Frosted Snus, which is an old favorite of mine from back in the day.

Flavor Description:  "A fresh spearmint flavor".
Can Contents:  16.8 grams, 21 portions, 0.8g each
Nicotine Strength:  13mg/pouch, which is 16.25mg/g in total due to the 0.8g portions.

Going into this one I have a lot of questions!  Will it taste like Thunder Frosted Snus?  Or will it be similar to Zyn and Volt Spearmint?  Honestly, it's not really like either one.  It seems to be a menthol/spearmint mint in terms of aroma and flavor.  In the aroma, I pick up a present aroma of menthol, along with a sweet, subtle spearmint mixed in.  The pouches are a lot like Zyn's pouches.  They're semi-moist, soft, comfortable in the lip, and they come with a light cooling sensation under the lip.  The flavor is pretty gentle in presence.  It's a mild, even balance of menthol and spearmint.  There's a light sweetness that comes through, but it isn't too overdone.  In terms of strength, it feels to be about the strong level, and I find the flavor lasts about 40-45 minutes, on average.

Rating and Final Thoughts

This one ended up at 3.17 out of 5 for me.  It wasn't a clone of Thunder Frosted, nor was it an exact copy of Zyn/Volt's spearmint flavored varieties.  It was a pretty evenly balanced menthol/spearmint flavored product, and I enjoyed it.  It was milder in presence, not super in your face, and pretty refreshing.  Spearmint isn't the most present flavor, it seems peppermint tends to overtake it, so it's nice to see more products released with a spearmint flavor.  If you're a nicotine pouch consumer who enjoys mint products, check this one out, you may enjoy it!
