Grinds Double Mocha (Coffee Pouches) - Review. 16 June 2021.

It's Mocha Mania, brother!  The wrestling fan in me, I must admit, is rather enjoying this new campaign from Grinds.  Grinds Double Mocha is a revival, a resurrection, and a return - a reimagining of the old Grinds Mocha (Coffee Pouches), which was actually one of their first products launched back in 2010.  I first had it back in 2012, so I've been familiar with Grinds for quite some time now.  Regarding this release, Grinds says, "Grinds all new double mocha takes the original flavor profile we launched in 2010 and completely remasters the flavor experience and caffeine strength. Grinds Double Mocha takes all of the talkings points and feedback from customers from our original mocha flavor over the last 10 years and puts it all into the pouch: more flavor, longer duration, more caffeine."

The flavor description for this release says: "A balanced taste of chocolate with a more heavy dark roast coffee flavor. Double the chocolate. Double the intensity. Double the caffeine."  Each can weighs in at 18 grams and has 18 portions, for 1 gram each.  The caffeine content is 50mg/pouch, twice the usual amount for a Grinds pouch!  This release also contains the new moisture-locked dry pouch, which Grinds describes like so:  "Our newly developed moisture-locked dry pouch-maintains its flavor longer and leaves your fingertips clean!"  This is, quite simply, Mocha perfected!

When you open the can, you can tell there is much more presence to this one that the old Grinds Mocha. The aroma is kicked up with a more robust presence of dark coffee, and a nice mix of chocolate. It is very well balanced! The pouches are plump, semi-moist, with a dryer material on the outside. They're also pretty comfortable under the lip! With Grinds, you don't have to spit your saliva, it is actually encouraged that you swallow to get the maximum effect from the Grinds pouch. The flavor is definitely improved. It is very well balanced, with the coffee and chocolate coming through in equal amounts. The coffee taste is bold, dark, and rich. The chocolate flavor is present, slightly dark, and semi-sweet in nature. As far as the caffeine content goes, I definitely feel a nice jolt from the increased caffeine content on this one! The flavor usually lasts an hour, sometimes more for me, which is much longer than the usual Grinds pouch!

Rating and Final Thoughts

For comparison purposes, my review of the old Grinds Mocha came in at 3.08.  My highest rated Grinds product so far is Grinds New Orleans, at 3.5/5.  So, this one is now my highest rated Grinds product at 3.58/5.  This is a vast improvement over the old Mocha product, I love the new pouch material, and it has tremendous flavor quality and presence to it.  I like that Grinds, as a company, can actually look at their products, see what works and what doesn't work, and fix it.  This is their way of saying, "Hey, our old Mocha could be better, and we made it better for you, the consumer".  I dig that.
