Volt Cool Crisp (Nicotine Pouches) - Review. 12 May 2021.

Some of you may remember a snus product from a little while back called G3 Volt. That product was discontinued/rebranded as G3 Pow. Shortly after that, I reviewed a new product that popped up in Denmark called Volt Nicotine Pouches. It made me start to put the pieces together that Volt would most likely live on as a nicotine pouch line. Sure enough, a new line of nicotine pouches called Volt has popped up from Swedish Match. When they talk about this line, they say "Spark the unexpected! VOLT are nicotine pouches with fresh flavors in surprising combinations. Interesting new flavors in a variety of strengths, so find just your favorite and give the imagination wings."  Today, we're talking about Volt Cool Crisp!  This one kind of has two descriptions.  The first one from the Volt website is a little intro:  "This taste is lively and forward-leaning. Full of ideas. A clear entrepreneurial taste, with the finger on the present and the gaze on the horizon. And peppermint. Really fresh!"  The actual flavor description for this one says, "Cool Crisp has a fresh and intense taste of peppermint with a clear cooling effect. It gives a clean and clear mint character with high freshness and a noticeable freshness. Many people spontaneously associate the taste with a wintry experience, which is extra refreshing when it is warm outside".  Each can weighs 16.8g and has 21 portions, for 0.8g portions.  The nicotine strength, according to the bottom of the can, is 11mg/portion.  Doing some backward math, that's 13.75mg/g in total.

When I tried this product, I noticed something:  it's basically the same thing as Zyn Cool Mint, but with a different name.  When I talked to Swedish Match, I imagined this line would be replacing Zyn, however I was told that wasn't the case, and that both Volt and Zyn would be sold.  So, if you've had that product, this one is basically the same.  But, if not, I'll still do a full review of this product!

When you open the can, the aroma that comes through is a fresh, but milder smell of peppermint.  It's fresh in nature with a light sweetness.  It's also not super sharp, or in your face.  The pouches themselves have a slim-fit, and are soft and comfortable under the upper lip.  Being a mint product, they do come with a nice cooling presence under the lip, as well.  The flavor is pretty gentle, and refreshing.  The peppermint comes through clearly, but it's not super sharp or super in your face.  It's surprisingly well balanced.  It's gentle, but not weak.  The nicotine strength on this one feels to be right at the strong level, and the flavor lasts about 40-45 minutes, on average.

Rating and Final Thoughts

I rated this one at 3.42 out of 5.  It's a pretty solid taste.  Now, if you've had the Zyn version, this one is identical just with a different label.  However, if you haven't had that one - give this one a spin.  It's got a fresh taste to it, it's not super in your face, but still carries a refreshing component to the flavor profile.  It reminds me a lot of the G.4 Blue Mint that I use all the time, because it's refreshing, but not going to knock you out with an overbearing flavor or strength.
