Skruf Nyans (Månstoft) - Review (Discontinued). 14 April 2020.

NOTE:  This product has been discontinued and is no longer for sale.

It's been a few years since I've reviewed this one, and I've had some requests to revisit it, so here we go.  If you're active online, particularly the Snus Subreddit, this snus gets talked about a lot.  To me, it's become a little overrated, but it does has a loyal fanbase.  The flavor description for this one says, "Skruf Nyans Månstoft has a light flavor of salted caramel along with the classic tobacco taste".  Each can weighs 17.6 grams and has 22 portions for 0.8 grams.  The nicotine content is 8mg/g (0.8%), or 6.4mg/portion.  When it comes to the name, I did a little Google Translate magic, and Månstoft translates to "moon dust".  I'm not sure how salted caramel relates to moon dust.

If you have your sweet tooth ready, let's go ahead and dive in and check out this snus.  When you open the can, a rather sweet smell greets you.  It's a present tone of caramel, but almost seems to have some chocolate behind it.  The pouches are smaller in size, and lighter in weight.  They're semi-moist, and pretty soft to the touch.  The flavor is a rather sweet one.  It has forward tones of caramel, accompanied by light tones of chocolate.  There's a mild tobacco base to this one, but it's way in the back of the flavor profile.  All in all, it's pretty sweet.  Not as sweet as American "snus" by any means, but sweet when compared to other Swedish Snus products.  The nicotine strength feels to be about regular strength, maybe just a little below that.  The flavor, on average, lasts about 45 to 50 minutes.

Rating and Final Thoughts

I rated this one at 3.38/5.  Again, I know it gets a lot of love online, and it's pretty highly talked about.  To me, I think it's a little overrated in the community, but it's not something I personally use.  That's just my personal opinion.  For those who like a sweeter product, I think you'll enjoy this one.  I also think it's a good transitional product for people coming over from American "snus" products, particularly one like Camel Mellow.  This is a good stepping stone from that to real Swedish Snus!

Comments

  1. Actually here in Sweden we also have the Small Batch series from Swedish Match that have a similar description as this one. It's called "Salty & What", howver it seem to now be discontinued, but it was a rather nice and tasty snus.

  2. In general (puns), I struggle with the all the sour flavors (bergamot, cirrus, etc.) they like like to throw at snus. Manstoft is a welcome departure. With this one, I literally just taste mild tobacco and vanilla. The result is markedly sweeter than most Swedish products but not added sugar diabeetis sweet like US smokeless.
