Today, we're going to talk about the new Velo Max series, recently released onto the US market! These have been rather hard to find, but I saw that Nicokick.com has the entire lineup! Velo Max comes in four flavors: Cinnamon, Berry, Wintergreen, and Cool Mint. All four flavors come in 8mg/pouch, but you can also find Cool Mint and Wintergreen in the 12mg strength. Now, how do these differ from Velo Plus? Well, in quite a few ways! Each can of Velo Max weighs 12g and has 20 pouches, at 0.6g each. Velo Plus, in comparison, 0.532g each. Pouch size is also a little different. Velo Plus sits at 13mm x 32mm, whereas Velo Max sits at 12mm x 37.5mm. These are also more moist, at 32% moisture compared to Velo Plus at 25%. Now with all that said, let's see how they taste, shall we?
Flavor Description: "A minty-fresh sweetness with a cooling finish".
My Review: Opening the can, the aroma that comes through is that familiar US "mintergreen" flavor. It's a lightly sweet, minty smell of wintergreen. The pouches are quite nice. A little bigger, more plump, and more moist than Velo Plus. They feel great in the lip! The flavor is, as expected, "mintergreen". It's a lot like a wintergreen Tic Tac. It's a mild, lightly sweet taste of wintergreen and mint. In the strength, the 8mg level has a nice delivery at the regular strength level. It's pretty comfortable stuff! The flavor lasts about 45 minutes, on average.
Velo Max Cool Mint
Flavor Description: "A cool, mint freshness with a cooling finish".
My Review: The pouch notes, nicotine strength, and flavor longevity remains the same from the last review. In the aroma, this is a very EU style mint pouch. It reminds me a lot of Velo Crispy Peppermint / Ice Cool. It's a smooth, crisp, fresh aroma of peppermint with a touch of menthol. And it's not overly sweet in the aroma or taste, either. Pretty nice! Flavor-wise, the mint flavor is fresh, smooth, and gentle. The peppermint taste is front and center, and a light tone of menthol sits right behind it. It's well rounded, and approachable.
Velo Max Cinnamon
Flavor Description: "A pleasantly warm and familiar spice flavor".
My Review: The pouch notes, nicotine strength, and flavor longevity remains the same from the last review. This one has a big aroma of cinnamon to it. But, it's more of a sweet cinnamon and not a spicy cinnamon. In the flavor profile, I was expecting more heat, but what I found was a gentle, sweet taste of cinnamon. It's not bad or anything, but I was curious if it would have more heat or spice to it. To me, this is a more approachable Americanized cinnamon flavor with some sweetness to it.
Velo Max Berry
Flavor Description: "Smooth berry taste with a hint of cooling mint flavor".
My Review: The pouch notes, nicotine strength, and flavor longevity remains the same from the last review. This one was pretty complex, and surprising! In the aroma, I picked up a tart, semi-sweet berry presence. Once I got a pouch under my lip, I was able to dig into the flavor more. The berry flavor is lightly sweet, and makes me think of a raspberry/grape type of taste, along with a tart berry backing. It took me a minute to dig into it and figure out what it reminded me of, then it came to me: rhubarb. To me, it's a sweet/tart berry hybrid with notes of raspberry, grape, and rhubarb. It also has a mintiness to it, from the aroma to the flavor, but it's not too overbearing!
Rating and Final Thoughts
All in all, these weren't too bad. The high point for me was the pouch. It's one of the best i've encountered on the US market. Rating the flavors, I gave Berry a 3.33/5, Mint and Wintergreen a 3.17/5, and Cinnamon a 3.08/5. The flavors weren't super exciting for me, and are pretty standard American fare. But, if they make Tropical Heat in this format, I'll be quite happy. But all in all, a great product line with a top notch product quality!
