The day is upon us, Zyn Ultra is here! I've been waiting for this ever since they filed the PMTA for it in 2021. I couldn't find any locally, so I went over to Nicokick.com and copped all the new flavors. But this one, Citrus Zest, is the one I was most excited about. Most US citrus nicotine pouches are either A) too minty or B) smell like cleaning products. I haven't met a US nicotine pouch yet that had a good, pure citrus flavor. The flavor description for this one says "A zesty twist of lemon and lime flavors with a slightly sweet finish". Today, I have the 9mg/pouch version. It also comes in 11mg, but I'm more partial to regular strength. Now, let's open the can and see what makes this "ultra"!
Zyn Ultra Size Comparison
I really hoped these were going to be like the Swedish Zyn Citrus. Those have always been a favorite of mine. When I opened up the can, I knew I was going to be pleased. It doesn't smell like Pine-Sol! I pick up a tart aroma of lemon, along with hints of lime, and a subtle sweetness. It is what I hoped it would be! The pouches are also top notch. They're plump, they're moist, and they're soft. They're slim, with a soft feel against the gum. In the flavor profile, I'm quit pleased with these. The citrus flavor is top notch. The lemon and lime pair nicely. It does have a little tart nature to it, but also some sweetness. It's pretty well balanced. In the strength, this one has a comfortable delivery, right at the regular level. It doesn't do a big nicotine dump like dry Zyn does. This one is more comfortable in how it comes on. The flavor lasts quite a while, usually 40-45 minutes or so!
Zyn Ultra Size Comparison
The new Zyn Ultra comes in a slim, plump, moist pouch. These are also bigger than the former Zyn Dry. Zyn Ultra weighs 0.8g. The old Zyn Mini Dry weighs 0.4g. These are twice as big in terms of weight! These are also moist, and have a much softer pouch. A bonus piece of information, these are bigger than Velo Plus, too. Those weigh just 0.53g each. These are now some of the biggest pouches on the US market! And, they're bigger than Swedish Zyn, which now sits at 0.6g. Personally, I didn't use the old Zyn Mini Dry much. The pouches were too dry and didn't have much flavor to me, so I didn't really dig them. These are much, much better. Also, the pouch amount has increased, instead of 15 you now get 20 pouches per can. Now, let's open a can and do a review!
Rating and Final Thoughts
I rated this one at 4/5. For me, that's an incredibly high score for a nicotine pouch. I've rarely rated any at a 4 or above. But this one has it all. It's got a great strength, a tasty flavor, and a very soft, comfortable pouch. If you're like me and love citrus flavors, you'll want to say this. As of right now, this is the best tasting citrus pouch in the US.
