Copenhagen Reserve Long Cut (American Dip) - Review. 20 May 2025.

I've been reviewing so, so, so, so many nicotine pouches lately.  I've really missed reviewing tobacco products.  However, the snus market is kinda dead right now, and we don't see a lot of new products anymore.  So, I saw this can of Copenhagen Reserve at my local Casey's and figured why not, let's check it out.  I've reviewed a lot of Copenhagen products over the years, so this one looked like fun to check out.  The flavor description for this one says "Hand-crafted. Barrel-aged. Blended with all the warmth of a Kentucky summer for an exclusive dip that could only come from Copenhagen".  It contains a mix of air cured and dark-fired tobacco.  It is said to have "warm, spiced, earthy notes".  Each can weighs 34.02g.  Copenhagen usually is around 11-14mg/g in nicotine strength.

Opening the can, I notice what I've seen a lot of other folks saying.  It smells like root beer.  It. almost seems to have a hint of vanilla to it.  I pick up some very light notes of wood and smoke, which aren't as present as I notice with other Copenhagen dips.  Some may think it smells like straight dip, as well.  Root beer contains methyl salicylate, and straight dips contains salicylic acid ethyl ester (a carbon group away from root beer), so that may be why this makes me think of root beer, or straight dips.  They're basically cousins.  The tobacco comes in the long cut format, and has a decent amount of moisture to it.  I find it packs well in the lip.  I go in the upper lip, because I'm a snus guy, but I know most prefer to go in the lower lip.   It's pretty moist, and I notice a pretty quick release of flavor.  In the taste, this one has a sweet taste of root beer, along with gentle hints of vanilla.  I notice some subtle notes of oak and hickory, along with a little smokiness to it.  The nicotine strength on this one is satisfactory, and feels to be about the "regular" level.  With a decent sized pinch I find it to have a nice release.  The flavor stays around for a good 35-40 minutes or so.

Rating and Final Thoughts

I really enjoyed this one.  I think because I've been putting so many nicotine pouches under my lip for review recently that it's just really nice to enjoy a tobacco product.  I'm more of a snus guy, and I don't use a lot of dip, but I would say I enjoy it more than nicotine pouches.  But, I'm a tobacco enthusiast.  In the end, I rated this one at 3.46/5.   It's a pretty enjoyable product!
