Today, we're checking out a new-ish product line from the folks at Kurbitssnus in Sweden. I say new-ish because this one has been around for a while. It's only just now getting available to folks in the US; I found it recently on SnusMe.com and put it an order to give it a try. These are, as the market seems to demand, really strong mint products. While Kurbitssnus has usually focused on more traditional flavors, this line does not. This is how their website describes it: "T45 - A stronger snus experience.
T45: Peppermint (X-Strong)
T45: Green Mint (X-Strong)
T45: Cool Mint (X-Strong)
T45: Cold (Extreme)
In our snus series that focuses on mint flavors, we have chosen to use a stronger tobacco to add a little more intensity to the feeling and to meet the new generation of snus users with a stronger product and fresher flavors. A well-chosen tobacco blend is combined with pure mint aromas as well as genuine menthol crystals in order to enhance the snus feeling to something extraordinary."
Product Details:
Can Contents - 16g, 21 portions, 0.76g each
X-Strong Nicotine Strength - 22mg/g (2.2%), 16.72mg/portion
Extreme Nicotine Strength - 34mg/g (3.4%), 23.8mg/portion
Flavor Description: "A taste of peppermint and menthol".
Review: When you open the can, a sharp peppermint aroma comes through. It's more dialed back than Cool Mint, however. I pick up a little spearmint, and some menthol, as well. The pouches are soft, light in weight, and come with a cooling presence in the lip and a slight sting. The flavor is a present peppermint, but not so in your face. It is semi-sweet, with hints of menthol and a light touch of spearmint. The nicotine level feels at the extra strong mark, and the flavor lasts about 1-1.5 hours.
T45: Green Mint (X-Strong)
Flavor Description: "A taste of mint and green apple".
Review: In this one, I pick up a sweet, minty aroma. There's menthol up front, and then some light fruit hints that remind me of apple and perhaps a little berry. The pouches are soft, lighter in weight, and comfortable in the lip. They have a light cooling presence and a little sting to them. The flavor is a sweet and fruity, with cooling tones of menthol. It does make me think of apple, but seems to have a little dark berry to it. The nicotine level feels about extra strong, and the flavor lasts about 1-1.5 hours.
T45: Cool Mint (X-Strong)
Flavor Description: "A clear and cooling mint taste".
Review: When you open the can, a sharp, biting peppermint greets you along with hints of menthol. The pouches are lighter in weight, semi-dry, and pretty soft. They also have a cooling/stinging sensation to them. The flavor is a pretty sharp peppermint. It's lightly sweet in nature, with some menthol hints. The nicotine level feels about extra strong, and the flavor lasts about 1-1.5 hours.
Flavor Description: "A taste of green mint and menthol".
Review: As a lover of spearmint, I was more eager to try this one. In the aroma, I pick up a present, fresh, lightly sweet aroma of spearmint. The pouches, like the others, are soft, lighter in weight, and semi-dry. When you put one in you'll encounter a nice cooling presence, along with a little sting. The flavor is pretty refreshing. It's spearmint, and comes through in a sweet, present way. This one is stronger than the other two, feeling a little past the extra strong mark. The flavor, like the others, lasts about an hour to an hour and a half.
Rating and Final Thoughts
All in all, these weren't bad. I rated them all a little above average. Cold and Green Mint at 3.33/5, Peppermint at 3.17/5, and Cool Mint at 3.08/5. While I'm not a big fan of the super strong mint category, I get why companies make these. They do sell. So it makes sense that Kurbitssnus would make these. While they're not something I'd personally use, I think folks who enjoy the strong mint stuff would probably enjoy these.
