Grizzly Natural (Extra Long Cut) Dip - Review. 6 September 2021.

Recently I announced that Snubie.com is getting back to basics - and that means more tobacco content.  I've had some requests to review American moist snuff/dipping tobacco, and as a tobacco enthusiast I figured what the heck, why not.  I'm a snus guy, don't get me wrong.  But I do enjoy all things tobacco!  I still believe snus to be the best harm reduced option for smokeless tobacco enjoyment/smoking cessation.  But these products are a fun break from time to time.  I had the regular long cut Grizzy Natural back in 2011 and did a video on it, but didn't have the ELC version.    Grizzly is a relatively new brand, introduced in 2001 by the American Snuff Co (a subsidiary of Reynolds American).  It's a popular brand and has 25% of total US market share.  Unlike others that advertise 100% American tobacco, Grizzly has 90% American tobacco and 10% foreign tobacco.  I know the "American tobacco" thing is a good selling point, but America isn't the only place that makes good tobacco.  So, I don't see the 10% foreign tobacco as a drawback, personally.

Product Details
Flavor Description:  "For those who want classic snuff taste in an easy-packing extra-long cut. It has a cut and taste that's consistent from can-to-can."
Can Contents:  1.2oz / 34.02g

Usage
Of course, American moist snuff is a fermented product.  This means that you'll need to spit your saliva.  Traditionally, it is put in the lower lip.  However, as a snuser, I don't use it the regular way.  I take a pinch (without packing the can), and throw it in my upper lip.  That means less salivary gland contact and less spit.  Basically, I use it like regular lös snus.

When you open the can, a gentle, natural, earthy tobacco smell comes through.  I pick up slight wood notes that remind me of oak, and hickory.  It has a balanced smokiness to it, as well.  The extra long cut tobacco is moist, and incredibly easy to pack.  It stays put well in the lip, and has a steady release of flavor and nicotine.  In the flavor, I pick up a straightforward tobacco taste.  It's earthy, natural, and gentle I nature.  I also notice a subdued smokiness to it.  There are wood notes in the background, which remind me of oak, and hickory.  In terms of strength, a pinch feels to be about regular strength.  The flavor lasts about 50-55 minutes, which is about how long I kick a pinch in for anyway.

Rating and Final Thoughts

I rated this one at 4.17/5, a pretty high rating.  It's a solid product.  The tobacco taste is top notch, but the star is the extra long cut.  It makes it an incredibly easy to work with product.  I find products like this to be very approachable, and good for those who may be wanting to break into dipping tobacco and try it out.  Especially if you like the taste of tobacco, this one really has a great flavor profile!

Disclaimer:  I'm still a snus guy.  If you're looking to switch from smoking to a safer form of smokeless tobacco, I still encourage Swedish Snus being that option.  In my opinion, Swedish Snus is the most enjoyable, safest oral smokeless tobacco product available.  Dip is a fun excursion from time to time, but I still encourage snus usage over dip usage.  If you want to learn more about Swedish Snus, you can check out our Snus FAQ here, or this informative video about snus, here.
