SwedSnus / SnusRoom.com Whisky - Review. 11 April 2021.

I've been enjoying the SnusRoom.com website quite a bit lately.  I like their website because they sell bulk snus in cheap, and they ship to the US.  But also because, as a lös snuser, it's fun to make my own lös at home, and it's fun to play around with the flavors they make.  I just made a batch of six and they turned out great!    In terms of their portion versions, they have quite a lot of flavors, and they come with a cheap price tag; this one was $29.90 USD for the bag, which is about $1.99 a can.  Today, we're going to be talking about their whisky flavored version.  The flavor description for this one says, "Portion Snus sharpened with Laphroaig whisky ".  Each bag, when you get it, weighs 195 grams and has 300 portions, for 0.65g per portion.  The nicotine content, in total, is 11mg/g (1.1%), which breaks down to about 7.15mg/portion.  Now, you could use the product as is.  Or, you could add moisture to it and make original portions!

Adding Moisture

I've experimented with various moisture levels, and have found that I like the portions to hover around 45% moisture. To get to that level, I've found that adding 0.16ml per portion gets it where I like it to be. You can mix up the whole bag, or half the bag, or however many you want! Once you add the moisture, throw it in the fridge for 48 hours and let the flavors/moisture settle, then it's good to go! Now, let's review this product and talk about the two different versions.

White Dry / As-Is Version

I was excited to try this one, because there aren't a lot of whisky products on the market.  Also, the Laphroaig whisky in this one is an Islay single malt whisky.  Islay Whisky portion snus has been gone for a while now, so I was looking forward to enjoying another Islay whisky flavored snus!  The aroma of this one comes with a mild, smooth whisky presence.  It has a light, earthy tobacco presence, a light smokiness, and kind of an oaky presence.  The portions are dryer, but soft and comfortable under the lip.  In the flavor, the whisky comes through pretty smooth, along with a smokiness behind it.  I also pick up a little oak, and a gentle, earthy base tobacco.  The nicotine feels between regular and strong, and the flavor lasts about an hour, on average.

Original Portion / Moisture Added Version

This version was much, much better.  But I mostly use original portions as it is, so I knew I was going to dig this one.  It has a more pronounced aroma, and flavor.  There’s a present, smooth aroma of whisky, along with a nice earthy tobacco base.  It’s lightly smoky, and has hints of oak.  The portion turned out great!  It has a nice release of flavor, and a comfortable pouch.  In the flavor, the whisky is clear, smooth, and present.  I pick up a nice smokiness to it, along with a touch of oak, and a good base tobacco presence.  The nicotine feels between regular and strong, and the flavor lasts about 40-45 minutes.

Rating and Final Thoughts

So, I enjoyed this one.  It's kind of like when you compare LD to General.  LD is a good snus, but General is more premium.  To me, this is kind of like a budget Islay Whisky Snus, but on the level that LD is for me.  It's a good snus, one that I would use again, and one I'd suggest whisky lovers try out.  I rated the original one at 3.83/5 and the white dry one at 3.75/5.  If you like whisky snus, I'd suggest checking it out.  I enjoyed it!
