Skruf Red Rhuby (Super White) - Review (Discontinued). 28 March 2019.

NOTE:  This product has been discontinued and is no longer for sale.

It's been 9 years since I last had a rhubarb flavored snus, many of you may remember Catch Collection Mellow (Rhubarb), which Swedish Match released back in 2010. To say this is not a common flavor in the snus world is an understatement. Skruf decided to change that, and has released Skruf Red Rhuby (Super White) #3.  The flavor description for this product says it has a "fresh taste of rhubarb".  This product comes in a 17.3 gram can with 24 portions for 0.72 grams each. The nicotine content is listed as a 3/4, which I'm assuming is the equivalent 12-14mg/g.

A friend of mine got this can for me from Snuslageret.no, that's why the cans look like this. In Norway, snus cans come in this color, also known as Pantone 448 C, or 'opaque couché'. According to a survey, it is "the world's ugliest color". Also, cans in Norway have no graphics on them, they only have the name of the product. I personally like the cans and the color. I find the design simple, and minimalist. So their effort to make snus less attractive did not work on me.

If you're outside of Norway, this is what the can looks like. It looks very much like Skruf's other "Super White" products.  The can bottom is also slightly see-through, so you can see the pouches inside the can.  I personally like the Norway can design better, as I mentioned above.

These products are moist, and feel like snus. Inside the pouch you'll find what looks like white tobacco, but isn't actually tobacco. This product contains plant fibers and nicotine. It feels like tobacco, looks like tobacco (other than being white), and feels like a snus portion in the lip, but isn't actually tobacco. This is an interesting product, because there are a lot of people who want to quit smoking, and many of them want to quit tobacco all together, but don't want to give up nicotine. That's where products like this, and Zyn for example, become important.

If you aren't familiar with rhubarb, this is what it looks like. It's technically a vegetable, but it's considered a fruit. It's sold by the stalk, kind of like celery. Rhubarb is quite sour, and incredibly tart, and often made into rhubarb pie.  It's hard to describe, but it's kind of like a mix of celery and really sour green apples.  At least that's the best I can describe it.  Usually people pair it with something sweet - like strawberry.  It also tastes good with added ginger.

Now that I've got all that out of the way (whew!), let's get into the review.  The aroma is very tart, and quite sour.  If you're looking for something sweet, like rhubarb pie, you won't find it with this snus.  The portions are slim and comfortable in the lip.  They're not too moist, but not too dry. The flavor is a raw rhubarb taste - it's not a sweet taste at all.  Like the aroma, the flavor is quite tart and sour.  The nicotine strength feels to be just a touch stronger than regular strength, and I find the flavor, on average, lasts around 35-45 minutes.

As far as this snus goes, I couldn't really get into it.  Usually, I praise a snus when it isn't overly sweet.  However, I think this one could benefit if it was just a little sweeter.  But, that's just my opinion.  Some may dig the tart/sour nature of the flavor.  But for me, it's not something I would order again.
