In South Africa, there is currently discussion of a new Tobacco Control Bill. This bill makes no distinction between conventional tobacco products such as cigarettes and other reduced risk tobacco products. Harm reduction advocates in South Africa are wanting an allowance for an exemption for new technology/products, and a provision of information to consumers about harm reduced alternatives. They are wanting legislation that separates traditional tobacco products such as cigarettes from harm reduced alternatives. They also want a bill that acknowledges consumers have the right to choose.
