Knox is a budget snus brand in Sweden, and one that has become quite popular over the past several years. By some metrics, it has even outsold General. And it makes sense, Knox is a quality snus brand. It's made by Skruf, which is a company that knows how to make a quality product. Personally, I'm more of a General or LD guy, but I know Knox has quite a following. By popular request, I figured it was time to revisit this one! As far as this one goes, as of the date of this writing, I've only been able to find it on
Snus24.com and
SnusDirect.com (for the US). Obviously in Sweden you can buy it anywhere. The flavor description on this one says, "
Knox Loose is a loose snus that combines tobacco flavors with elements of bergamot and citrus". The cans weigh in at 40 grams, and have a nicotine strength of 8mg/g (0.8%).
When you open the can, the aroma that greets you is earthy tobacco, gentle hints of citrus, and light floral notes. The lös itself isn't as easy to work with, but handbaking is possible with patience. I vowed recently to try not to use tools with lössnus anymore, so I've been getting better at handbaking. The taste is a lot like Knox Original, but with more tobacco flavor. There is a present, earthy tobacco taste accompanied by hints of citrus and mild floral notes which contribute a gentle sweetness. The flavor lasts a good 45 minutes, and I find the los stays together very well in the lip. It is soft, moist, and comfortable with little mudslide. The nicotine also feels to be at the regular strength level.
Rating and Final Thoughts
I rated this one at 3.54/5. It's a little above average, and a pretty decent snus for the price. If you're a budget conscious snuser, this is definitely a cheaper option. Looking at the price in Sweden it's 47 SEK (5.53 USD) for Knox to 57 SEK (6.72 USD) for General. So almost $1 cheaper per can. If you're looking to save some money, that's a pretty good sized drop. But all in all, a decent snus, and one I enjoyed reviewing!
