The Return Of Warning Lables On Online Purchases. 25 February 2015.

In case you missed it, last night Nash and I were guests on "Inside Vaping", a live YouTube show about e-cigarettes. We went on to talk about Swedish Snus and help educate some of their viewers about tobacco harm reduction. One interesting thing that came up is the warning labels on online purchases. In the past, shortly after PACT/FDA in 2010, I wrote about product warning labels on Swedish Snus cans. If you've read this blog long, you know I'm not a fan of them as they are factually inaccurate.

One of the hosts of the interview showed a can he got in a recent order from SnusCENTRAL displaying the "WARNING:  This product can cause gum disease and tooth loss."  As we've discussed in detail in the past, the warning labels on Swedish Snus cans are very inaccurate and present false information.

Three are outright lies:

  • This product can cause gum disease and tooth loss.
  • This product is not a safe alternative to cigarettes.
  • This product can cause oral cancer.
There's only one that we all agree on, that nicotine is addictive.

Unfortunately, now the FDA is tightening things up with retailers who ship Swedish Snus to the US.   This is an old photo, but it's the only one I could find of an order from BuySnus/SnusCENTRAL.  In the past and until recently, when you ordered from most retailers of Swedish Snus and had it shipped to America, you would get a delivery like this.  Regular cans of snus with a warning label on a piece of paper in the package.  Until recently that has been fine.

Now, FDA is back to wanting the warning labels actually on the cans, as you see above.  We're starting to see that now, so if you don't like the warning labels save cans of your favorite products so you can switch them out into cans without the labels.  They have to be sold with the warning labels on them, but we as snus users do not have to carry those cans around with us.
Since 2009, I've advocated for people to quit smoking by switching to snus and for people to switch from dip to snus for a better health benefit. These warning labels turn people off harm reduction by advocating lies. It's important to note that these warning labels are not true, and the only one that has any statement of fact to it is that nicotine is addictive.

So, to sum it up - you're going to start seeing warning labels on cans of Swedish Snus ordered online, no matter who you order from.  If you don't want to deal with them, start saving cans of your favorite snus products and just swap them out whenever you open a new can.  That's what I do to avoid carrying around cans with lies on them. We've discussed this topic in the past, but there is a section on Snubie.com that has health studies and resources about the truth natural of Swedish Snus and health.  So start saving your cans, because these warning labeled cans should begin showing up soon if you  haven't seen them already.
